As South Africa celebrates 30 years of democracy, it is crucial to assess the ongoing challenges to the current state of human rights and explore the extent to which they are respected, protected and fulfilled.

South Africa commemorates Human Rights Day There are many perspectives to reflect on as far as this day, 21 March, and what it's about is concerned. From these vantage points - as shown on the video - I can't help but feel despondent, disheartened and discouraged. The low levels of literacy and the overall low quality of education; lack of proper governance at the heart of corrupt leaders, overwhelmingly high unemployment rates while GBV cases are at an all time high. 30 years into the democratic dispensation, the list is endless. While at this reflection point, I have a plethora of questions. Amongst many: What future will my children and posterity inherit? What kind of South Africa will they live in? What am I actively and proactively doing to ensure that this is not just a habitable state but also one with endless good possibilities and growth opportunities? While minding my privilege I must acknowledge that, in ways more than one, I can relate with the story of Tinswalo as narrated by the president in his 2024 SONA. The dawn of democracy had it's positive and negative impact on me. I choose to reflect on the positive. Access that this dispensation brought to me serves as hope to those watching. If anything, I'm just a girl who lost her mom when she was 5 & has been fighting EVER SINCE. The systems in place still mirrors that before the democratic age but I guess the fight continues and we won't stop until we win. "...noma ngingamemeza ma, akusizi luthu..' - thats the level of despondence, disheartenment and discouragement I'm at currently. That said, in all the despondence, disheartenment and discouragement, not voting is not an option. May the remembrance of this day be good to you. #humanrights #HumanRightsDay

It has helped to bring youth issues to the forefront of the global agenda and has encouraged the development of policies and programs that address these issues. 🌍📚 Celebrating UN Global Media and Information Literacy Week 📚🌍 This United Nations Media and Information Literacy Week, Millennium Partners spotlights the successfully completed Access to Justice (ATJ) activity in Moldova 🇲🇩— showcasing Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in action. Through the ATJ-developed “National Campaign for Healthy Justice” umbrella, the project united NGOs and media organizations, tapping into their collective expertise to boost legal literacy and promote awareness of Moldova's fundamental rights and freedoms. This collaboration fostered trust between NGOs and media partners, resulting in informed media coverage and increased visibility, underscoring the importance of #Media and #InformationLiteracy. ATJ's four media partners—Ziarul de Garda (ZDG) newspaper, the Association of Independent Press, Cu Sens, and Media Alternative (TV8)—informed over 1.2 million people about their legal rights and protections. These partners have jointly addressed critical issues in media and the justice sector for more than a decade, including tackling fake news and #misinformation. Throughout the project, ATJ produced over 1,500 outreach materials, providing continuous updates to Moldovan citizens on various legal matters. 📢 "Our main call for governments and civil society is to include #youth in their discussions, in their actions and in their implementation plans, to make sure we are targeting the most vulnerable communities around the world, since 31% of all international migrants worldwide are under 30," says Aryan Sanghrajka, Youth Rapporteur and member of the Migration Youth & Children Platform, at the 14th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit. 📚 "Young people face structural barriers in terms of access to education and basic services when they go into new communities. They are often excluded from implementation plans, for example, or the provision of language, aid, or services. It's so crucial to include them because they are not only tomorrow, but also today. They have solutions and innovations to global challenges, which they are already implementing in local communities." 🤝 "If we can work together through spaces like the GFMD and connect young people with decision makers, policymakers and across mechanisms and sectors, then we can create a better world for all together."
