“Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy allows us to see the dysfunctional patterns that we’re stuck in from a different space.” Last month, we hosted our San Diego Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Provider Panel, featuring SD-based Journey Clinical member psychotherapists. Chandra Khalifian, PhD, provides couples KAP alongside fellow member Kayla Knopp, PhD, in their practice Enamory. Chandra spoke about the unique role KAP plays in couples therapy, helping partners reconnect. You can learn more about Chandra’s practice, along with insights from fellow panelists Breanne Ferrara, LCSW, L.J. Lumpkin III, LMFT, and Brooke Kettering, MA, LMFT, in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/eCNvBwXF

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is one of the most commonly used therapy approaches and for good reason. Developed by Richard C. Schwartz in the 1980s, the Internal Family Systems model presents an integrative approach to individual psychotherapy, blending Systems Thinking with the notion that the mind is comprised of multiple subpersonalities. Put simply, IFS refers to the way in which an individual’s brain thinks about itself and, in turn, thinks about others. This concept is also depicted in the Disney Pixar movie, Inside Out, as multiple different emotion characters (Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Disgust) symbolize what IFS terms as "parts." At this time of year, the New Year, I ponder over what the word new means. New is what was not before thought or done. Perhaps a new practice, a fresh perspective or insight, a kinder and more humorous attitude towards self, a letting-go attitude towards one's history, a more positive attitude towards others, a connecting in previously untried ways with the world? A re-set? A re-set where we want it most? It could be as simple as saying yes to the world, saying yes to oneself, saying yes to others. Take the first step even so you cannot see the entire staircase, by finding out from me what solution-focused, forward-looking Psychotherapy is all about.
