The recent decision by SHRM to remove “Equity” from its diversity initiatives has sparked significant debate in the HR community. This move raises important questions about the future of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our workplaces. Key points to consider: 1. Understanding the Impact: What does removing “Equity” mean for our DEI efforts? How will this change affect our strategies and outcomes? 2. Commitment to DEI: It’s crucial for HR leaders to reaffirm their commitment to equity, ensuring that fairness and equal opportunities remain central to our work. 3. Employee Perception: How will this decision influence employee perceptions of our dedication to creating inclusive environments? 4. Ongoing Dialogue: Engage in conversations with your team and peers about the implications of this change and how we can continue to advocate for equitable practices. As HR professionals, our role is to champion inclusive and equitable workplaces. While organizational decisions may shift, our commitment to fairness and opportunity for all must remain steadfast. #HRLeadership #DEI #EquityInclusion #SHRM #WorkplaceCulture #HR https://lnkd.in/eBXb9Mtm

I help high performing women continue to perform at their best without sacrificing who they are and what they want. People Developer| Therapist| Executive Coach
𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐑 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. This analogy, while well-intentioned, is unintentionally contributing to unrealistic expectations and burnout among HR professionals. It’s time to shift our perspective and recognize the true role of HR in modern businesses: 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬: HR professionals should be seen as facilitators who create the environment and tools necessary for employees to succeed on their own terms, not as the sole bearers of organizational health. 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: The success and well-being of an organization are shared responsibilities. By moving away from viewing HR as the backbone, we encourage a culture where every team and individual contributes to and shares in the outcomes. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: Recognize HR’s strategic role in developing sustainable practices that support the long-term growth and resilience of the entire organization, not just putting out daily fires. 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: HR’s job is to empower employees to take charge of their professional growth and well-being. This approach not only reduces the pressure on HR but also fosters a more proactive and self-sufficient workforce. By redefining HR’s role, we can help prevent burnout and create a healthier, more balanced workplace where the HR function is respected for its true value and contribution. Consider how being the backbone may or may not be serving you.
