As the creative mind behind every collection, Julie plays a main role in shaping Jovani’s renowned designs across various categories, including couture, bridal, prom, and pageant dresses. Her extensive experience and innovative vision have established her as a key figure in the fashion industry. Jovani stands out in the special occasion dress market for its exceptional fit and distinctive fabrications. The brand is known for its unique designs, featuring materials like stretch crepe, scuba, lace, embroideries, sequins, and intricately beaded dresses. Julie’s journey to becoming the chief designer at Jovani began in 1984 when she started designing evening wear straight out of college. She first made a mark as the sole designer for the “After 5” collection and soon launched her label within the brand. Her career significantly turned when a Canadian company brought her on board to develop their boutique line. Joining Jovani, Julie was struck by the opportunity to design in an expansive showroom, exclaiming, "Wow, I have this whole room to design." Her design philosophy centers on creating for the modern woman with a focus on comfort and wearability. Julie frequently tests the clothing herself, ensuring that her designs not only stand the test of time but also outlast the fleeting trends of the fashion world. She draws inspiration from fashion capitals like London and Paris, often retiring her outfits not due to wear and tear, but because they’ve become too familiar to her audience. “I usually have to retire my outfits, not because they are falling apart, but because everyone has seen them” Julie’s commitment to continually improving her designs underscores her dedication to crafting timeless, impactful pieces. For prom 2025, Julie believes the trends are shifting towards simpler, yet elegant designs. This year, expect to see a rise in the popularity of corsets, with many dresses featuring low backs and daring front cuts. Metallic fabrics make a strong statement, alongside dresses adorned with all-over beading, adding a touch of glamor. Romantic styles are characterized by ruffles and prints that evoke a whimsical charm, taking inspiration from the hit show Bridgerton.
