It is so difficult to deal with societal impacts of a research project when you’re a scientist. How to talk with all the stakeholders ? How to even find them ? What timescale is relevant ? However, this is now asked on a regular basis by funding programs, such as Horizon Europe. In a research and innovation landscape that is going through massive changes, training is paramount. That is why we've launched a training on societal impact for research and innovation projects. This training is a necessary first step for universities and research performing organizations that want to improve their understanding of social and environmental impact in research and innovation settings. If you are a university: - with an ambition to foster research and innovation with positive societal impacts - looking to engage your scientists more closely with civil society - looking to stay up to date with these new requirements Your support staff and researchers should be taking this course ! Our next training session start end of February 2024.

To highlight, The CUNY SEEK program (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) has been a vital pathway to higher education started by Black and Puerto Rican students organizers recently celebrating 58 years (1966) of fostering academic success and personal growth. As a former SEEK participant, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of this program, which was designed to level the playing field in a society where educational opportunities are often unequal. The recent overturning of affirmative action highlights the ongoing struggle for equal access to education, underscoring the need to continue advocating for all students, regardless of their background. Capitalism plays a complex role in granting access to education and resources. While it drives innovation and economic growth, it also exacerbates inequalities by prioritizing profit over equitable opportunities. The commodification of education places a price tag on knowledge, making it accessible only to those who can afford it. As we move forward, it is crucial to challenge these systemic barriers and ensure that programs like SEEK continue to provide access and support to marginalized communities, helping them break through the economic and social limitations. #seekprogram #education

I'm so excited to share that my very first article, "AI’s Empty Efficiency: Rapid Creation at the Expense of Meaning in Student Learning", collaborated with JING YANG and Minjin (MJ) Rheu, has been accepted to HICSS-58. 🥳 The paper investigates the impact of using GAI tools on students' work efficiency and the psychological effects, including their perceptions of the value and meaning of their work, the satisfaction they experience, and feelings of threat to the uniqueness of their contributions. The findings suggest that while GAI tools significantly reduce the time required to complete tasks, students' reliance on them may negatively impact their sense of autonomy and competence. I look forward to attending and sharing my insights with other scholars at the conference! 😊

It isn't a cool platform, and most people want to be where the kids are. But this platform is where the high school admins are, and this can be a useful tool for telling the story of a school.
