Could you help a marginalised young person gain essential work experience to help them get onto the job market by offering a paid two-week work placement this May/June? Our Employment and Skills programme has now launched in partnership with West of England Combined Authority and South Gloucestershire Council to deliver the Mayoral Priority Skills Fund and we're recruiting businesses to get involved. The programme provides a fully supported pathway aimed at changing mindsets, fostering positive growth and building key skills to propel young individuals towards a brighter future. What's more, participating can provide the following benefits to an employer: ➡ Enhanced teamwork and bonding amongst staff. ➡ Up-skills existing workforce. ➡ Achievement of social value targets and a connection with your wider community. ➡ Increased understanding of pathways for engaging and onboarding diverse young talent. The Lancashire Skills and Employment Hub are aiming to develop a common language to support young people into employment across Lancashire... Through the Lancashire Local Skills Improvement Plan, employers fed back to them that they are concerned about the work readiness of young people. In response to that feedback, the Chambers, Lancashire Skills and Employment Hub and Lancashire Careers Hub want to work in partnership with Lancashire employers to improve the work readiness of young people. By defining a common work readiness language, they can support young people in their transition from education to work. This language can be integrated into employer encounters and experiences of the workplace, which will take place through careers provision and skill development within the curriculum, as well as embedding the language into the recruitment and induction of young people into the workplace. To do this, they need feedback from you so that they can focus on the skills that are the most important to Lancashire employers and develop a common language with education and they would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete this short 3 question survey. 👇 https://bit.ly/3O3rd3I

I read the 298 pages of the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act so you don't have to... Here's what you need to know 👇 The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act or (WIOA) is the primary funding driver for a majority of the workforce development programs in the state. It has 5 main buckets which encompass almost all of the workforce development programs and services offered. Those buckets are: 1. Workforce Development Activities 2. Adult Education And Family Literacy 3. Wagner-Peyser Services 4. Vocational Rehabilitation 5. General Provisions WIOA is geared to serve jobseekers AND businesses. Jobseekers: - Unemployed/Underemployed - Seeking training - Facing barriers to employment (e.g., English as a second language, low income, recidivism, homelessness, basic skills deficiency) Businesses: - Placement Services - Job posting - Candidate screening - Events (job fairs, recruitment events, etc.) - Training Services - Incumbent Worker Training - Quick Response Training - Apprenticeship - Work-based learning - Other Services - Rapid Response/Layoff Aversion - Labor market research - Human Resource services - Federal Bonding and Work Opportunity Tax Credit This is a 50,000 foot overview of WIOA, what it is, and who it serves. There are additional programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) --> food stamps and, the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Welfare Transition Program. These have different funding sources but also utilize WIOA programs to help people get to a place of safety and stability. The Local London sub-region is the fastest growing part of the capital and has huge potential for inclusive growth that benefits all our boroughs’ residents. Yet, unemployment in our sub-region tracks higher than the national and London averages. The updated South West Local Jobs Plan is now live! In the South West our priorities for outcomes with employment, skills and participation are: 1.     Address complex barriers with a person centred approach 2.     Use existing programming and incentives 3.     Industry and Jobs exposure, apprenticeship, traineeship and training uptake 4.     Employer support for staff attraction and retention These priorities are identified using information gathered through the South West Local Jobs Taskforce and are an integral part of Employment Project Fund and Local Recovery Funding opportunities for the region. Along with our student survey, our 2024 Victorian Employer Satisfaction Survey is underway too! Employers of apprentices or trainees who were in government-funded vocational training in Victoria in 2023 are invited to share their views on the training provided by registered training organisations.
