Ever find yourself daydreaming of a career move? Let's chat about those thoughts you've been having: 1. Long Commutes Getting Old? 🚗 Long commutes can be draining. Think about how you could use that extra time if you worked closer to home or remotely. More time for hobbies, family, exercise, or just relaxing. 2. Culture & Ownership Shifts? 🔄 When the culture or ownership at work changes, it can feel like you’re in a completely different job. If the new culture doesn’t align with your values or makes you uncomfortable, it might be a sign to look for a workplace where you feel more at home. 3. Craving Freedom from Micromanaging? 🕵️♂️ If you find yourself constantly being watched and not trusted to do your job, it might be worth seeking a role where you have more autonomy and trust from your superiors. Have you experienced any of these issues personally? What kind of career or work environment do you imagine would be a better fit for you? #detroitconstruction #job #opportunity #constructioncareers #construction #projectmanagerjobs #superintendentjobs #projectmanagement #superintendent #projectdirector #projectengineer #construction #hiring #projectmanagement #superintendent #generalcontractor #estimator #ConstructionJobs #GeneralContractors #Michiganconstruction

The Three Little C's. Many years ago, while I was recruiting for a Project Manager for a Tenant Improvement General Contractor, I coined "The Three Little C's: " 1. Compensation. 2. Charge (role, job description). 3. Commute. As I discussed the PM opportunity with potential candidates, we would always discuss one, two, or all three as the most import factor(s) to them when considering a new job. So important were they to them, I facetiously named them the Three Little C's. Then I started to realize that Three Little C's are at the heart of all recruiting in the construction industry. Why? Because if I as a recruiter could present the PM role or any other role as the Three Little C's the candidates wanted - a serious improvement on their current C's - I'd greatly increase my candidate pool and almost anyone would talk to me. Who doesn't want either one, two, or all three of the following: 1. A higher salary. 2. A better job description or role. 3. A better commute - still important in many roles in construction. Ah! But this only works when you are: 1. Serious about recruiting top professionals by leveraging them upwards. 2. Not interested in hiring construction pros as "chess pieces" by moving them laterally into your roles. 3. Respectful of top candidates' accomplishments and what THEY want and not necessarily what YOU want. After all, you want to hire for the long-term, right? The point is almost every Project Manager, Superintendent - you name the title - will only consider your opportunity if it is a step up for them. You may be wasting valuable time spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere near close to your next critical hire. It looks good but then it fizzles out. Could this be because you as the hiring authority haven't or can't properly address a candidate's Three Little C's? There's a method to this madness. Contact me to learn more. #compensation #jobdescription #commute #construction

I'm indebted to our exceptional traveling field management staff. To grow, companies need people to carry the torch across borders, to new states, and eventually to the ends of the earth. Traveling #projectmanagers, #superintendents, #qualitycontrolmanagers, #ssho, #projectengineers, and #craftspeople are the trailblazers of the #construction industry. In an exceptional team they; 1. Tell our story. Customers crave field teams that make the work easy for them to administer. Then, we tell stories of our values, our performance, and our people. This provides an inextricable link to our second and third projects as we build customer confidence while enjoying the daily grind of the work. 2. Tell our purpose. If we are “Building to solve the world’s greatest challenges,” from housing shortages to easier healthcare, our customers typically care about the same mission. Our values and our purpose connect us to those same mission-driven customers on the other side of the table and sitting right next to us. Living and breathing the intentionality that makes us #purposebuilders cements the trust and transparency of our work. 3. Show our excellence and experience. The traveling team will be the first that the customer's views of your company. Their professionalism, how they listen, how they partner in changing project conditions, how they handle conflict in the field, and the work produced the first time will create a reputation for the company. 4. Create their personal story. My travelers help guide their own growth. They sacrifice and take risks for the company's mission. When they excel, we reward them with the path they desire through a tombstone-worthy resume. Congrats to our Texas team for its recent $20MM healthcare award near Dallas and for allowing Ryan Blair to run project sites a bit closer to home. Thanks for your dedication and sacrifice to our exceptional travelers. Read the ADVERT, not just the JOB TITLE!! 📖 Attention to detail is a standard skillset for most positions across various industries. It's crucial to understand that job titles can be deceiving, and the sector and requirements can vary significantly. For instance, the role of a Project Manager can differ vastly based on the industry and company. A Construction Project Manager and an IT Project Manager have distinct skill sets and responsibilities. It's essential to delve deeper into the specifics of a job role rather than relying solely on the title. Remember, titles can be misleading, and the actual job functions may vary widely. Don't risk appearing irrelevant by applying for positions that don't align with your expertise. Take the time to understand the intricacies of each role before submitting your application. #rantover #dontlookstupid #attentiontodetail
