🔋 An excellent overview of the geographical distribution of #EVBattery and #MaterialSupplyChains, published in #Nature. 🔎 The study examines the relationship between electric vehicle battery chemistry and supply chain disruption vulnerability for four critical minerals: #lithium, #cobalt, #nickel, and #manganese. It compares the #nickelmanganesecobalt (#NMC) and #lithiumironphosphate (#LFP) cathode chemistries by mapping the supply chains, calculating a vulnerability index, and using network flow optimization to bound uncertainties. Interesting that the USA is so prominent as a major player as material processing and refining of Manganese Chemicals for NMC batteries. Could you kindly elaborate who this NEW major producer of High Purity Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate IS in the USA? They surely went below the radar, or do they currently fall into the same category as GM overtaking Tesla by mid-decade? (as per Mary Barra) To my knowledge China has a 95% market share in the production of Manganese for NMC cells, and at their current market price of about $650/mt, they probably won't lose to much market share in the next 20 years. (about 2 million mt in various battery grade Mn-chemicals capacity coming online by 2026/7)
