Recently, I contributed an article to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) about the role of AI in decision-making. Here are some takeaways: ➡️ AI’s potential in decision-making is still underutilized despite impressive advancements in other areas. ➡️ Critical challenges for AI in decision-making include its "black-box" nature and its struggle with causal reasoning. There is an urgent need to design AI systems that are explainable and allow users to incoporate domain knowledge. ➡️ Transparent AI systems offer benefits that go way beyond ethical considerations. They enable users to benchmark AI insights against their own expertise, which typically results in better decisions. Thanks Dmitry Plekhanov for inviting me to write this piece! 6moExceptional contribution & couldn't agree more with your conclusion "The key message is that data are proliferating, and AI is here to help, but without the human in the loop, don’t expect better decision-making."
