🎂 Happy Birthday, Fresenius Group! "If not us, then who?" - Else Kröner's powerful words have guided Fresenius for over a century, and today, as we celebrate our 111th birthday, they resonate more strongly than ever. Else Kröner turned her stepfather’s medium-sized business into an international pharmaceutical company, thus laying the foundation of the Fresenius that we know today. Reaching today’s historical milestone fills me with pride, but it also reminds me of the responsibility and obligation to lead this great company into a successful future. And this is what we have already initiated with our #FutureFresenius journey. Happy Team Tuesday, meet our wonderful Lori (aka, if you didn’t see our recent post… our 2023 Company Excellence Award Winner). Lori is originally from Ohio and has lived in Florida for 26 years. Her family is in Ohio, including her one (very loved and adored) granddaughter. One thing Lori always say is “It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is I am happy if it is Monday or Friday. Today is the day that the Lord has made, and I try to live it joyful.” And if you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Lori at a show or in the field, you’d attest that she truly embodies this positivity in every interaction! Here's what Lori had to say about her favorite Milestone Instrument… “Having the opportunity to join Milestone after being a histotechnologist for 20 years is one of my best decisions; now I can provide laboratories with the best instruments on the market. Milestone Medical has so many innovative instruments that bring great benefit to any laboratory, it is hard to choose one [we couldn’t agree more], but if I had to choose one it would be the DecalMATE. Decalcifying bone marrow core biopsies is still today in most labs a manual process and a “guessing game”. Too long or too short of time in decal effects the end results for proper diagnosis and prognosis for any patient needing treatment. Not to mention it makes it easier for the Histotechs to cut the bone and saves on turnaround time. The quicker and more accurate the physician gets the results the better for the patient. Time to optimize and standardize the process. Thanks for being an outstanding member of our team, Lori!

The fight for fair reimbursement isn’t about #independentpharmacy versus #chainpharmacy—America needs both, with each serving its unique purpose. One of my favorite pharmacists, Dr. Mak (aka the “Superman Pharmacist”) so eloquently illustrates this in this video clip. The mistake businesspeople sometimes make is falsely assuming that pharmacy is strictly a transactional business. Pharmacy can be transactional, but often isn’t. While some patients just want to hit the CVS drive-thru, others are more medically complex and need a higher degree of counseling to ensure no contraindications to medications, and/or that they are using their medications appropriately. This becomes increasingly important as we age, where the number of prescriptions we’re taking, potential side effects risk and preexisting health conditions grow. We need independent pharmacy to survive. And we especially need to ensure that we align Medicare reimbursement in such a way as to not disincentivize the type of high-touch, hands-on care that many of these Independent Pharmacies excel at.

About Nima Ahmadi: Nima Ahmadi is a proven healthcare entrepreneur and executive whose personal mission to bring effective and dignified care to wound and ostomy patients has driven his career. His unique background and professional experience position him with an unmatched ability to drive impactful innovation in the industry. Prior to co-founding The Wound Company, Nima worked as Head of Strategic Ventures and Digital Products at Cardiovascular System Inc, a global medical device company focused on peripheral vascular disease, wound care, amputation prevention, and coronary artery disease. Before this Nima was the VP of Product at Icario, a health action company to improve health outcomes, which he pivoted and grew from 0 to 15 million Medicare Advantage and Medicaid patients under management for the top health plans. Nima graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Biomedical Computation and went on to receive two master's degrees in Bioengineering and Business Administration. Before beginning his studies, Nima lost an uncle to complications with lower extremity wounds. The experience inspired him to go to Guatemala to build prosthetic implants for diabetic patients with foot wounds so they wouldn’t suffer a similar fate. About Julie Roskamp: Julie has been a Registered Nurse since 1987 and a Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse since 1994. She received her training as a CWOCN at the Abbott- Northwestern ET Nursing Education Program. She has practiced in acute care, long term care and home health settings performing consultative visits on patients with wounds and ostomies, as well as preparing and presenting education programs for nursing staff on current assessment techniques and treatment strategies. She is a current member of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society and participates on a national level with Wound Ostomy Continence Certification Board for the PGP committee. In addition to her professional responsibilities, she has volunteered countless hours with the St. Paul Ostomy Association for nearly 20 years.
