United for a good cause! 🎗️ While our commitment to those affected by breast cancer is year-round, this month we are especially focused on raising awareness and standing in solidarity. Our teams from all over the world – including our colleagues from Fresenius Group, Helios Kliniken GmbH, and Quirónsalud – are contributing through a variety of initiatives. Some inspiring examples: 🇮🇹 Our Italian colleagues from our MedTech hub in Mirandola joined the local Pink Walk with their families, raising awareness and much needed funds. 🇪🇺 🇫🇷 For the teams of Fresenius Kabi Region Europe and Fresenius Kabi France, both located in Paris, it has become a tradition to gear up for the annual Odyssea Run that successfully raised 6.2 million for breast cancer research over the past two decades. This year, our group was especially large and enthusiastic. 🇱🇹 Our colleagues in Lithuania took part in the annual Pink Run that supports affected women on their way to recovery. 🇪🇨 Our team in Ecuador created a mural of hands to show that every hand counts in the fight against breast cancer, engaged in awareness talks and shared tips related to cancer care and prevention. 🇺🇸 The Women’s VOICE Employee Impact Group from Fresenius Kabi USA joined forces with the American Cancer Society in the fight against breast cancer at Making Strides, a community fundraising event that raises vital funds to support breast cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers throughout their journey. Our post features some snapshots from these activities, capturing the spirit and dedication of our incredible teams, embodying our commitment to life. #BreastCancerAwareness #TeamFresenius #CommittedToLife

Team Fresenius on Tour Diversity and innovation need art. We firmly believe this. Because art promotes creativity and encourages engagement with societal questions and different perspectives. Our colleagues from the Rhine-Main region recently experienced this firsthand during a guided tour of the Städel Museum. Accompanied by an experienced art historian, they delved into 700 years of art and learned to see art with new eyes. The event was part of our partnership with the renowned Städel Museum, which makes an important contribution to a diverse and pluralistic society with its work. We say “Thank you” for the great tour, Städel Museum. And are already looking forward to the next one. #TeamFresenius #FutureFresenius #CommittedToLife

At the World Health Summit, I had the pleasure of speaking with leading experts about the central role of the private sector in healthcare. Together with Rhonda Sealey-Thomas, Monika Kosinska, Jeni Miller and Luoye Atwoli, and moderated by Adnan A. Hyder, we explored important topics for the future of our sector. It is clear to me that the healthcare sector is not only one of the largest economic sectors, but also an essential driver of growth. Our task as private providers is to combine medical quality with economic efficiency. Because only those who are economically strong can invest in state-of-the-art equipment and first-class employees. Cooperation in competence centres and clusters is particularly valuable, as it creates efficiency gains and strengthens specialised care. My conclusion: The private sector must play its part in making healthcare systems more efficient and at the same time more patient-centred. The following applies: medical focus and economic success go hand in hand - for the benefit of the patient, every day anew. #WHS2024 #FutureFresenius #CommittedToLife

Today, I had an insightful conversation with some of the leading healthcare and AI experts regarding a topic I feel passionate about: the role of trust and the human-to-human connection in the digital age. For me, AI is undeniably a game changer that has tremendous potential to supercharge the quality and efficiency of healthcare. However, it can only do so with the support of healthcare professionals and patients. A big thank you to my fellow panelists for a lively and value-adding discussion at the World Health Summit in Berlin today: Alain Labrique (World Health Organization), Marelize Gorgens Prestidge (The World Bank), Karen DeSalvo (Google Health), and Liam Smeeth (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine). And of course also to Amanda Stucke, MPH from the Economist Impact for moderating our panel! AI is a general-purpose technology that changes how we invent, how we collaborate, how we govern – and how we save and protect human lives. In healthcare, AI will be a game changer like antibiotics or medical imaging have been. Along with breakthroughs in biological research, data, and technologies, AI and digital transformations will lead to quantum leaps in healthcare. AI will speed the development of vital medicines – and make them more accessible. AI can be a powerful agent when it comes to advancing health equity. But just as it can be an equalizing force, it can also have the opposite effect if not deployed with fairness, transparency, and equal access. Educating and (re-) training the healthcare workforce is an essential lever to improve the quality and efficiency of health care through AI. In order to apply AI to best advantage, we also need clear rules: Just like medications and medical devices, medical AI applications should be required to present highest-quality scientific evidence of safety and efficacy. Sound ethical standards are also needed, including for data security. Handling patient data with the utmost responsibility is an important prerequisite for trust. In turn, trust is a critical prerequisite for the success of AI. Indeed, it is the most important currency in our business. People entrust us with their health and sometimes even their lives. For me, there is no doubt that healthcare is and will be based on a human-to-human connection. No amount of technological progress will change that. However, we need to make healthcare systems more efficient and increase the quality and efficiency of care while dealing with an increasing global workforce shortage. AI provides important leverage to help solve these challenges. Let’s seize the opportunities AI brings safely and responsibly – for the benefit of all patients.
