Everything is bigger in Texas, including energy storage. California has traditionally been the center of the storage industry, but that’s rapidly shifting as Texas continues to add storage capacity. ⚡️ Texas Clean Energy Expansion Over the next 18 months, the vast majority of clean energy and storage capacity will be built in a small number of states. Texas is set to lead the country in clean energy expansion, planning to add 35.6 GW of solar, wind, and battery capacity in the next 18 months—more than double the combined planned capacity of California (11 GW) and Arizona (5.3 GW). Other states like Indiana, New York, Florida, and New Mexico also have notable projects, but on a much smaller scale. No state will see more growth in clean energy than Texas. Why is that? The more the sun shines, the higher the energy demand and pressure on the grid 😰 But the more the sun shines, the more power is generated and it's finally catching up and out-performing the demand. ☀ The Texas electric grid set an all-time record for energy DEMAND on Tuesday BUT Monday and Tuesday also brought the top three days for solar power PRODUCTION in the history of the state grid! BREAKING NEWS. Today, New York's Public Service Commission (including two fantastic new commissioners!) discussed New York's newly established Grid of the Future proceeding. The objective of this proceeding is to "unlock innovation and investment to deploy flexible resources – such as DERs and virtual power plants (VPPs) - to achieve our clean energy goals at a manageable cost and at the highest levels of reliability." The Commission directed DPS Staff to conduct a "Grid Flexibility Study (Study) to produce, assess, and report on the present status and future potential for flexible resources in New York’s electric system" by November 15, 2024. Battery storage in particular has been dominating the market in the last few years - though the states differ in terms of their installed capacity.
