🌱 Exciting News! 🌱 EU policymakers have recently decided to introduce a direct ban on the destruction of unused textiles and footwear. This move signifies a pivotal shift towards a circular economy and underscores the importance of finding innovative solutions to tackle textile waste. At BioFashionTech, we're thrilled to see this commitment to environmental responsibility! 💡 The growth of online shopping, flexible return practices, changed consumer preferences, and fast-fashion business strategies have resulted in increased shares of returned and unsold textiles. Textile product destruction, where products are destroyed before use, epitomizes the inefficiency of current linear production-consumption systems. 🌍 At BioFashionTech, we offer a solution. Our cutting-edge biotechnological process transforms textile waste into valuable raw materials like mixed plastics and bio-molecules. By collaborating with us, companies can avoid the costs associated with disposing of unused textiles while contributing to a more circular economy. As the EU moves towards a more sustainable future, we invite companies to join us in revolutionizing the fashion and textile industry. Did you know that - Customer loyalty increases significantly when fashion brands offer reselling opportunities? - Fungi serve as nature’s clean-up crew by efficiently breaking down organic matter and synthetic polymers? - It’s possible to trace back, with just one unique solution, a retail garment across the supply chain to its raw material? These were some of the ideas unveiled to a select group of investors at the The GoodFashion Institute Investors’ Luncheon. The presenting ventures, from the world of sustainable fashion, were: Reflaunt creators of a one-stop fashion resale solution that leverages brand-powered circular models to ignite growth in the fashion industry Rheiazymes a venture whose proprietary technology will enable closed loop recycling by breaking down materials back into their main raw components Haelixa Ltd specialists in product traceability using DNA markers, offering transparency on the authenticity of a product along the supply chain The meet also featured the investor perspective provided by Collateral Good, a climate-first and technology-focused venture capital platform. As highlighted by the The GoodFashion Institute, with measures like the EU's Supply Chain Act (CSDD) and the Digital Product Passport (DPP) on the anvil, the regulatory framework is progressing to put sustainability front and center. A big thank you to our speakers Stephanie Crespin, Sandra Grimmer, Roland Grimmer, Gediminas Mikutis, Michael Kleindl, Susanne Otto-Bomio and Punleuk Kam. Change is indeed in the making! Get active and join the The GoodFashion Institute to make fashion more good - for the environment, for people. #impactinvesting, #esginvesting #sustainabletextile #sustainablefashion #csdd

I'm excited to share the Tracing Textile Waste Project! 🎉 Why is this important? At present, a significant bottleneck in progressing towards scaling recycled textiles is the lack of transparency regarding the origins of textile feedstock. Our goal is to develop an open-source data template that streamlines the collection and exchange of textile waste data, from origin to recycler. Improving the visibility of reclaimed material inputs will enable brands to report more effectively on the recycled content used in their products (e.g. textile-to-textile feedstock). This will facilitate compliance with the #ESPR eco-design requirements, the upcoming #DPP, reporting obligations under the #CS3D, and the eco-modulation criteria in the Waste Framework Directive. A key objective of this project is to deliver recommendations to Textile Exchange for the development of new and existing standards, including #GRS and #RCS. I look forward to continuing this work with Jyotsna Gopinath, Sophie van Kol, Evonne Tan, Vidhesh Kadam, Emily Crumley and Lea Michalczik, and our Project Partners, including Adidas, Target, BESTSELLER, Norrøna, and Levi Strauss & Co., Reverse Resources, Recover, and USHA YARNS LIMITED. https://lnkd.in/ediTzBWh
Today, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Tracing Textile Waste Project, a two-year initiative in partnership led by Fashion for Good and Textile Exchange. This multi-stakeholder effort aims to harmonise data and system capabilities in the reverse supply chain, enhancing transparency and traceability of textile waste. Key Objectives: ✅ Establish an open-source data template and glossary of terms. ✅ Create a standardised framework for collecting and exchanging textile waste data. ✅ Deliver recommendations for the development of new and existing standards, including GRS and RCS. This project is made possible through collaboration between brand partners, including adidas, BESTSELLER, Target, Levi Strauss & Co., and Norrøna, as well as key system stakeholders such as Reverse Resources, Control Union, Recover, and USHA YARNS LIMITED. Our efforts represent a crucial step towards a more transparent and sustainable fashion industry. By working together, we can unlock the power of textile waste and create a closed-loop system for a more responsible future.
