Our vision is clear: Empower students to excel beyond the classroom. Through the efforts of our anti-racism cross cutting team, we are starting to close the representation gap in relation to race at middle and senior leadership level. Despite this progress, there is still a significant disparity. We want students and families to be able to recognise themselves in our trust and feel like they belong. Funmilola (silent ‘n’) Stewart, Trust Assistant Principal for Anti-Racism has done a vast amount of work around decolonising the curriculum and in the links below focuses on the rationale. Funmi shares data showing limited input from racialised minority groups in leadership decisions and curriculum delivery, and argues that, as students from ethnic minority backgrounds are unable to see themselves represented in the education system, representation in the curriculum becomes very important. High School Leadership Journey Part 2 If you grew up in the Eastern province, you will agree with me that tensions between Anoya Zulu Boys and Chizongwe Technical Boarding schools often led to riotous behaviour and property damage when they clashed. One fateful evening, Chizongwe pupils ambushed Anoya Zulu Boys, setting fire to the school and vandalizing our belongings. This incident left our school bus and classrooms destroyed, sparking a desire for revenge among the pupils, However, security measures were tight, and retaliation attempts failed. As a Grade 11 pupil and Debate Club president, I had never considered a prefect role until this crisis. Motivated to prevent future conflicts, I pursued and became Deputy Head Boy. In my interview, I outlined proactive strategies: regular collaborative meetings with Chizongwe leaders before competitions to manage pupils, fostering mutual respect among prefects, proposing exchange visits for cultural exchange, and promoting forgiveness and reconciliation among pupils. These efforts successfully mitigated further incidents during my tenure. This experience taught me the importance of proactive leadership, empathy, and conflict resolution in fostering a harmonious environment. It shaped my approach to leadership, emphasizing collaboration and empathy in managing diverse teams and resolving conflicts constructively. For the latecomers sitting waaay in the back: According to @KristiOliva, “Thinking that teachers can only teach oversimplifies their diverse skill sets. Effective teachers are great at talking to people, adapting to different situations, solving problems, and understanding others. They manage classrooms, encourage creativity, and get students to think critically. They engage in ongoing professional development, further expanding their knowledge and abilities. They serve as mentors, role models, and community leaders, contributing to a society's intellectual and moral development. It is important to recognize that teaching encompasses a rich tapestry of skills and responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom.” ~ I’d take notice because she has firsthand experience in it. #hireateacher #goforit

बाल संसद: बच्चों के विचारों का मंच, लोकतंत्र का सच्चा संचार।" The Baal Sansad Program 🌟 In Balrampur district, we're dedicated to fostering the leaders of tomorrow. Our Baal Sansad (Children's Parliament) program is a cornerstone of this mission, offering students a unique opportunity to engage in democratic processes and develop essential life skills. Through the election of student representatives, our students experience the democratic process firsthand, learning the importance of voting and representation. Elected members take on leadership roles, honing their decision-making, public speaking, and organizational skills. The program provides a deep understanding of governmental structures and the responsibilities of elected officials, preparing students for informed citizenship. The Baal Sansad program is more than an educational initiative; it's a transformative experience that equips our students with the tools they need to succeed in life and contribute meaningfully to society. Let's continue to inspire and empower our young minds! 🚀 #Education #Leadership #StudentEmpowerment #CivicEducation #BaalSansad #FutureLeaders #CommunityEngagement #ValuesAndEthics
