The word “Procurement” often makes people think gatekeepers, but the way I see it at Rio Tinto, we have over 600 passionate people turning up each day to enable their colleagues to achieve our goal of being the best operator. A great example of this is a new process that will make us easier to do business with. Our contract simplification initiative, that we recently introduced, will allow us to improve the supplier experience and enhance our ability to work with the right partners. We have simplified our agreements to be shorter, clearer, and removed requirements that are non-core to the scope. Internally this has cut the amount of documentation required from 75 to 7 pages.   This means we save huge amount of administration time for our suppliers and can get them up and running faster to meet our business needs – making it a win-win.
