Pilbara Minerals Limited revenue declines in 1Q 2024 Apr 19, 2024 "Australian #Lithium miner Pilbara Minerals Limited announced today in their performance report for the first quarter of 2024.🇦🇺 The company's spodumene concentrate production during the quarter was 179,000 tons, and sales were 165,000 tons. The average selling price achieved was US$804/ton (SC5.3%), a decrease of 28% from the fourth quarter of 2023. Lithium production from #Africa is projected to almost triple in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. In 2023, the region contributed 4% to global #lithium production, but this year it’s expected to reach 10% of the global supply. https://lnkd.in/gJ6ez4aW

PERU’S COPPER PRODUCTION DROPS 11.7% IN JUNE AMID ONGOING INDUSTRY CHALLENGES Copper production in Peru fell by 11.7% year-on-year in June, reaching 213,578 metric tons, according to the country’s energy and mines ministry. For the first half of 2021, total production amounted to 1.29 million tons, reflecting a 2.1% decline compared to the same period last year. Peru, which has slipped to the third-largest copper producer globally after being overtaken by the Democratic Republic of Congo, is projected to produce 3.00 million tons of copper this year, up from 2.76 million tons in 2020, according to the ministry. West African has updated its Ore Reserves and 10-year production target following completion of our Kiaka feasibility study update. Mineral Resources remain unchanged at 12.8 Moz gold and Ore Reserves have increased 4% to 6.4 Moz gold. The 10-year production target is set to average 275,000 oz pa from 2024 to 2025, increasing to an average of 480,000 oz pa from 2026 to 2031. 2024 production and cost guidance remain unchanged at 190,000 - 210,000 oz at all-in sustaining costs of <US$1,300/oz. High-quality hard rock lithium typically contains 0.5% to 2.5% lithium oxide (Li₂O), with richer deposits being more economically viable. Key factors determining lithium hard rock quality include: 1. Lithium Concentration: Higher lithium oxide content in the spodumene increases the efficiency of extraction and reduces processing costs. 2. Mineral Composition: Besides lithium, the presence of other minerals like iron, aluminum, and silica can affect the ease and cost of refining the ore into battery-grade lithium compounds. 3. Geological Stability: The hardness and stability of the host rock influence the energy required for mining and crushing, impacting overall operational costs. Spodumene is preferred for its relatively high lithium content and efficient conversion to lithium hydroxide, making it a critical source for the growing battery market.
