The New Hampshire Football Officials Association held our annual mechanics clinic last night and featured two special guests.
Our first speaker was Andrew Toce M. Ed., MBA, LPC, CMPC, who spoke to the attendees about self-awareness and mental resilience. I was introduced to Andrew about 6 months ago and he and I chatted about the growing use of performance consulting in athletics, but outside of the direct application to athlete performance. We were seeing coaches and even business executives start to utilize these resources so my question to Andrew was simply 'can we apply the same lessons to sports officials?'. The answer was a resounding 'yes.'
After some planning on how to best approach these topics to a unique audience, I watched and listened as Andrew held this group of officials captive with thought-provoking discussion around the four key elements of self-awareness, the importance of a reset mechanism, and the reminder that we are all human prone to mistakes yet empathetic enough to help each other overcome those instances.
To my LI network, especially those in New England I would encourage you to connect with Andrew if you're in need of CMPC services for any member of your sports organization (athletes, coaches, executives, officials).
