Patiently emerged as our answer to the silent question many patients ask:
What does this mean for me?
Born from countless hospital stays and inspired by the resilience of families on their health journeys, our platform is designed for anyone who’s felt overwhelmed by the complexity of medical language.
My own path through the healthcare system began much earlier than most. Born prematurely and facing asthma from a young age, hospitals were as familiar to me as playgrounds are to other children. These early experiences taught me not just resilience but highlighted the deep divide between medical professionals and patients—a gap where jargon breeds confusion and fear.
Watching my 3-year-old, Dr. Yam, in her play, serves as a poignant reminder of Patiently’s core mission: to render healthcare information not only accessible but meaningful for everyone, irrespective of their medical literacy.
We invite you to join us in reenvisioning a healthcare system where no one feels like an outsider in their own health journey.
We’re transforming the experience of health.

When designing a clinical trial, understanding the standard of care is paramount. It’s not just about what treatments are available but how patients access them, their support, and their entire journey.
Here are some quick thoughts on why this matters:
1️⃣ Patient Experience: Patients are not just data points but real people with unique stories.
2️⃣ Holistic Care: A clinical trial should provide care that matches or exceeds what patients receive in standard treatment. Otherwise, why would they sign up?
3️⃣ Decision Dilemmas: Choosing between standard treatment and a trial can feel like picking between going to your local restaurant you’ve been to 100 times or trying that new Thai place down the street - there is a possibility that the Thai place is better, but are you going to go against what you’re used to.
In the latest episode of Trials with Maya Z, Maya chats with Carol Scrafton, a passionate patient advocate, about why understanding the patient journey is essential for effective clinical research.
Go check it out in the link in the comments ⬇️
What are the needs of patients we barely consider when planning clinical trials?
Less Visits?
Less Procedures?
Fewer Miles to Travel?
More Time with their loved ones?
Someone to Take Care of their Kids?
A Space at the Site to continue work and make money so that they can pay the medical bills?
More Attention?
What else can YOU think of? (Please share in the comments 👇🏽 )
This is what we discussed with my first guest, Carole Scrafton, in my mini-series about the importance of understanding the local #StandardOfCare#PatientPathway before starting any trial.
Why Carole?
Carole co-founded FibroFlutters, an advocacy group for chronic and rare illnesses. She champions patient engagement and multidisciplinary healthcare approaches, emphasizing early involvement in research. Carole regularly speaks at global conferences and advocates for improved medical communication and education, drawing on her experience with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and fibromyalgia. She actively works with companies on best practices to engage patients and implement these insights.
This quote is one of many lessons Carole shared with me on Trials with Maya Z - my podcast dedicated to bringing different stakeholders' perspectives on making research more efficient, faster, and cheaper.

State Medical Boards: Are You ALL IN for Physician Well-Being?
I'm excited to share this map highlighting the states that have taken significant steps to update their physician licensing process, in accordance with the ALL IN: Caring for Caregivers recommendations. These forward-thinking states are leading the charge in eliminating barriers to mental health care for our physicians, creating a supportive environment where seeking help is encouraged and protected.
To my fellow healthcare leaders and advocates, I urge you to check if your state has made these crucial changes. If not, now is the time to take action. Write to your state medical board and demand that they prioritize the well-being of our physicians by updating their licensing questions. By eliminating these outdated and invasive inquiries, we can foster a culture of support and create a healthcare system that truly values the mental health of its workforce.

Let's work together to ensure every state is ALL IN for physician well-being. Share this post and encourage your network to join the movement!
