I recently saw an exemplary example of a small clothing store in Indore that went above and beyond to serve its customers. This store, called Sukshna Clothing LLP, was founded by Varun Ramani. Sharing some observations from a recent trip to a vibrant tier 3 city, Junagadh in Guj. Theme 1 - Road infra & Public transport Found excellent connectivity between it & the nearest tier 2 city, Rajkot. Distance of 100 kms takes flat 2 hours by a state govt bus which is electric, air conditioned & non stop! The frequency of these buses is every hour! While we do have great bus connectivity for Pune, not sure if we have any such thing for Nashik. Even if we did have, the condition of that particular highway is better not to be commented upon. Theme 2 - Consumption I don’t remember anyone in my family purchasing a phone from a store in last 7-8 years. Its 100% online. If someone from Mumbai did buy offline, it will be mostly only Croma/ Vijay Sales. However, there are still a lot of big & small fancy deal offering physical mobile stores in tier 3 cities. All of them prominently displaying “udhaar chalu che” (buy mobile on loan). A big market waiting for online penetration as well as good visibilty for offline players. Whoever takes it from here. But in both the cases, financiers in this space like Bajaj Fin etc are set to grow further. Theme 3 - Domestic Tourism The state govt is trying to be an enabler here. Ropeways have been installed at prominent tourist/ religious places to shorten the distance & enable more people to visit the mountains. Here are the solutions to the problems I attempted A. X Axis Sort the array X and traverse from X[0] to X[2]. For every value, check the distances of all three and select the minimum. AC Solution: https://shorturl.at/tFfY9 B. Matrix Stabilization If a[i][j] is unstable (all neighbours are less than its value), its final value will be the maximum of its neighbours. All neighbours remain stable since at least one neighbour's value is greater than or equal to theirs. AC Solution: https://shorturl.at/qFZMv C. Update Queries Let IND[0] < IND[1] < ... < IND[k] be the indices to update. Sort string C and place C[i] at S[IND[i]]. This works as IND[0] is the smallest and we place the smallest character as early as possible. AC Solution: https://shorturl.at/VZGkQ D. Mathematical Problem Construct an array for all possible 2-digit numbers and check the minimum value. If 0 is present, the answer is 0 as you can multiply all the elements. Ignore all 1s as they multiply with adjacent numbers. Sum the rest. If all elements are 1, the answer is 1. AC Solution: https://shorturl.at/ff9rQ E. Beautiful Array We need to shuffle the array such that after some operations it is possible to make the array into a palindrome. Given A < B, A can be converted to B if A mod K = B mod K ((A - B) mod K = 0). So we store all such numbers in an map of integer as the key and vector as the value. The number of odd sized vectors should exactly be equal to N % 2. Sort these vectors in non-decreasing order. If the size of the vector is even it is easy to see that the value contributed by it will be v[1] - v[0] + v[3] - v[2] + . . . + v[n] - v[n - 1]. If the size of the vector is odd then we have to skip an element (this will be the element in the middle of the array). The initial answer would be v[1] - v[0] + v[3] - v[2] + . . . + v[n - 1] - v[n - 2]. We skipped the element at index n - 1. It can be seen that is is optimal to skip elements at indices 0, 2, 4, 6, . . . , and so on. If we skip an element at index 2 the answer will be v[1] - v[0] + v[4] - v[3] + v[6] - v[5] + . . . + v[n] - v[n - 1]. The minimum value of all these expressions can be calculated by maintaining prefix sums of the odd and even indices. AC Solution: https://shorturl.at/gwvui The contest was easy.
