Embracing Connection Over Isolation In the early stages of my tech journey, I made a critical mistake – believing that success meant solitary confinement with just me and my laptop. This approach, while seemingly independent, resulted in encountering obstacles without clarity on their origins. The turning point arrived during a virtual event where a seasoned professional shared insights on the significance of networking and seeking advice in the tech space. It was a revelation that success in the industry wasn't solely about coding prowess; rather, it involved connecting with fellow professionals, learning from their experiences, and navigating challenges collaboratively. When I started All Tech Is Human in 2018, there was a pressing need for an organization to be a connective tissue for the hundreds of orgs and thousands of individuals working toward a better tech future. Today we have over 550 people in our working groups, 9k people across 90 countries in our Slack, 400 people in our current mentorship program (over 1k people have gone through), a weekly livestream series, and have held dozens of in-person gatherings that have brought together thousands of people (23 gatherings last year). A little over a month ago a hosted a tech meet up in Minnesota at @yemenicoffeemn I have been fortunate enough to meet so many tech pros throughout the country during my adventures. I thought to myself, if I know so many people , why not connect these individuals with other practitioners within their respective city? Why not create an environment where those who are looking for their next role can make an ask to another? Regardless of how early or how seasoned they may be? How valuable would it be to gain a friend, a mentor, or a mentee within your own city? How valuable would it be if that one connection gave you a potential business partner or a referral to a highly competitive role? It only takes one connection to potentially change the trajectory of your life. My hope is that this event created solid connections that pushed individuals respective career forewarned. I wanted this event to be an inclusive environment where everyone can walk away knowing that they in fact belong in the tech space so long as they commit themselves to their self development. Safe to say this event had such a positive impact on me and reminded us the importance of creating opportunities for others. I had such a fun time in Minnesota, shall we run this back again?
