We are thrilled our donation of laparoscopic equipment is making a significant impact to improve #healthcare in Kumasi, #Ghana. 🇬🇭 Gye Nyame Mobile Clinics, which provides pediatric surgery, mental and public health support in Ghana’s remote rural areas by using mobile clinics and multi-disciplinary medical teams, held a four-day ‘Minimal Access Surgery Course’ at the HopeXchange hospital in early June. The course was attended by 19 participants, including general surgeons, pediatric surgeons, and gynecologists. “The spectrum of quality in hospital care, diagnostic options, and surgical technology is extremely broad in sub-Saharan Africa, which includes Ghana,” said Dr. Britta Budde-Schwartzman, Gye Nyame Mobile Clinics Director. “Through regular laparoscopic training, this technique can be used as a hook for continuous technical improvements in the operating rooms and anesthesia units. The training also serves as a prerequisite for participation in such an operation and brings with it safety and new standards.” Our donation included four complete laparoscopic towers with screens, insufflation devices, cables, cameras, trocars, and instruments for both adults and children. Planning is already underway for the next workshop – we can’t wait to hear about it!
