Facing bias is a social issue that should not be a problem. It exists everywhere, from schools to workplaces, and even in fandoms. I’d your DC comics fan you will be ignored and criticised by Marvel fan 🤣. However, we should not let it hinder our growth and success. Just like how BTS was ignored by music sponsors and faced challenges during their early days, they did not let it stop them. Instead, they used social media to showcase their talents and overcame obstacles together as a team. Imagine wearing rose-colored glasses. Everything looks a pretty shade of pink. If your entire team wears these glasses, their perceptions are all skewed in a similar fashion. The risk is that the team overlooks critical aspects of problems and possible solutions, with results suffering. Remember Blockbuster? It ignored the changing landscape at its peril. Cognitively diverse team members collectively are more readily capable of perceiving the full range of threats and opportunities as well as the strategies for defending against those threats and exploiting the opportunities. Not only are the cognitively diverse more capable of solving a broader range of problems, but they will be more successful in solving complex problems.
