What have I missed? A work colleague said that their onsite manager of an 80 townhouse complex is paid $280k per annum. ***To be clearer: they manage maintenance issues and the general running of the complex - the complex has already been built. Is it just me who thinks this is way over the top? I'll admit I'm not an expert on what they earn, but at an educated guess I would have thought $120-140k base salary would cover the skills required in such a role. My first reaction to them was this is a scam. Or have I missed something in the role they do, and the responsibilities they hold? Anyone know what sort of money their onsite managers get paid? Otherwise where do I send my CV? I'll do it for $260k! #onsitemanagement #townhousecomplex #unitcomplexes

I help Construction and M&E contractors throughout the UK, build leadership and management teams that deliver successful and profitable projects 👷🏻♂️
All agencies are shit…💩 F*ck me if I had a pound every time…💰 Truth of the matter is this… There is a finite amount of construction workers in the uk…🧮 We all, you included, fish in this pond…🎣 Maybe let’s reframe the difference between a tradesman working direct and one working via an agency…🤔 Direct workers are treated more like one of your own, almost like one of your children… Agency workers are treated more as an outsider, a football loan player, not part of the gang and more often than not have to be A* to get a seat at the table (essentially not be called shit at as his or her job)…⚽️ Hopefully you now see what I’m getting at…🤓 Individuals create their own "subjective reality" from their perception of the input…🧠 So as soon as a lot of hiring managers get there labour from agencies, all too often there rationality for poor performance is “all agency workers are shit”… If that were the case it wouldn’t be the £35 billion pound plus industry that it is…💷 And you wouldn’t pick up the phone for help when needed…📞 Rather than point the finger…👉🏻 Can we collectively improve…📈 - Day 1 induction & onboarding - Be clear on expectations and KPI’s - Supervisors provide daily feedback on progress and targets - Include agency workers in team cammorodorie and after work events - Prove information sheets on your company values - Don’t have the clique culture of nit picking newbies work behind their back (and yes I was once one of them so I speak from experience) We all want the same thing… - A good reputation - A quiet life - Money Anyone disagree? ☂️ #constructionrecruitment #constructionindustry

Featured on HRreview and written by Amelia Brand, we highly recommend reading: New Study Reveals the Most Common Jobs Across the UK. A recent study by HR software provider Ciphr, using ONS data, reveals the most prevalent jobs in UK regions. London has the highest concentrations of brokers, economists, lawyers, writers, and CEOs—nearly double the national CEO average. The East of England follows with a high CEO concentration, while Wales has the lowest. Ciphr’s analysis shows regional specialisations: Scotland excels in early education, Northern Ireland in government admin roles, the North East in quality assurance technicians, and the North West in plasterers. Yorkshire and the Humber lead in insurance clerks and mental health nurses, Wales in plumbers, the East Midlands in agricultural managers, the West Midlands in metal workers, the South West in boat builders, and the South East in armed forces officers. The East of England stands out for animal care workers and newspaper editors. Filling the Need for Skilled Workers CONSTRUCTION: Workforce Connect, BIA Partner on Recruitment BY RAY HUARD SAN DIEGO – WorkforceConnect and the Building Industry Association of San Diego have formed a partnership aimed at recruiting more construction workers at a time when a growing shortage of skilled workers continues to bedevil the industry. “There is a dire need for skilled workers,” said Debbie Barnum, founder of WorkforceConnect, a nonprofit employment agency. The problem is exacerbated by the region’s high housing costs, which makes it difficult to attract workers from out of state. Combined with that is a lingering perception that construction jobs don’t pay well, and a sense that construction jobs aren’t as prestigious as some other careers, according to Lori Holt Pfeiler, CEO and president of the BIA, a construction trade association. The Association of Building Contractors (ABC), another trade organization, estimated that 501,000 additional construction workers are needed nationally in 2024 on top of the normal pace of hiring and an additional 454,000 will be needed in 2025. Pfeiler and Barnum didn’t have figures for San Diego County, but they said that the trend is the same. “There’s a shortage of construction labor across the country, but after COVID, a lot of people left San Diego because it’s so expensive, so we have a more severe shortage than many other areas might have,” Pfeiler said. “With thousands of jobs currently unfilled, our collaboration is crucial. It connects our members with students and job seekers eager to chart out their own paths and contribute to building our communities.” https://lnkd.in/drvPW7Ec #construction #development #constructionemployment #employment #jobs #constructionjobs

#Temporaryforeignworkers #TFWP #constructioncareers #skilledtrades 📝 Advertising of excessive requirements in hiring a Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) 📝 Employers, at times, advertise employment requirements/qualifications that fall beyond those mentioned in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) and industry standards - this practice may be appropriate when hiring locally, however, in accessing the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program, it could result in a negative decision - it could lead the ESDC Officer to conclude that the job advertisement could have potentially discouraged otherwise qualified individuals from applying, and thus the employer did not make reasonable efforts to hire Canadians or permanent residents. 💠 💠 More clarity on the above was provided by the Federal Court judge in Brocor Construction Ltd. v. Canada (Employment and Social Development), 2019 FC 420 💠 💠 This was an application to the Federal Court, for judicial review against the negative decision of the ESDC Officer with regard to a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to hire a TFW as a heavy equipment operator. 🔶 ESDC Officer's position 🔶 The Officer requested justification for the requirement that candidates have 3-5 years of experience, noting that- ⛏ on-the-job training was typical for heavy equipment operators and that requiring 3-5 years of experience was excessive for a low-skilled level C occupation as defined by the NOC. ⛏ employer declined 196 applicants because they did not have the requisite 3-5 years of experience in road construction and site development. ⛏ LMIA was refused. 🔷 Employer's argument🔷 ⛏ the experience was necessary because it would be hard to train someone, especially in the middle of a work project when there would be little time. ⛏ its particular needs do not allow for on-the-job training as the work in in remote locations requires employees to be self-sufficient. ⛏ 3-5 year experience requirement is needed so that a job candidate would be able to “hit the pavement and perform all the needed duties right off the bat.” ⛏ requiring someone with 3-5 years of experience is not a “great deviation” from the NOC requirements for a heavy equipment officer and falls within a reasonable range of employment requirements. ⚖ ⚖ Federal Court decision ⚖ ⚖ 📜 it was reasonable for the Officer in considering the NOC requirements to determine that the experience insisted upon by the employer was comparatively excessive. 📜 while an employer must be given some latitude in its hiring practices even within the TFW program, this has its limits and cannot be extended to the point where it is inconsistent with the scheme set forth in the Regulations. 📜 application for judicial review was dismissed #construction #constructionindustry #newbrunswick #novascotia #foreignworkers #internationalrecruitment #workpermit #cdnimm #novascotia #constructionassociation
