Telling jobseekers they should accept any job isn’t helpful. Because many jobseekers I know DO apply to Target or Walmart and can’t get hired. Jobseekers are doing the best they can. They’re applying for seasonal jobs in retail now. They apply online, e-mail hiring managers, go on company websites, use job boards. They’re listening to the advice of many “experts” , updating resumes, prepping for job interviews. Many are changing their must-haves for a job to nice to haves. Some have abandoned remote work desires for hybrid or in office. Yea, some jobseekers aren’t doing the right things. Some won’t budge. But instead of so many posts here telling jobseekers they’re wrong, they’re not enough, they’re not motivated… Maybe we can put the blame where it belongs… on companies who have laid off employees. We can’t control what companies choose to do, we can only control how we show up I assure you, many jobseekers are showing up. How do I know? I was that laid off off person who was called lazy, negative, and told I needed to do more/better/different. And I was doing it all. Sometimes it really is about timing and luck. More support. Press the 'people' button and filter it down. 4. Filter by 'location', and 'what they do' specifically. 5. Now, look for people who left the company recently. 6. To do so, click "all filters" and select 'past employees.' Send them this message: "Hi, I noticed you previously worked for company X. I'm considering signing an offer there. Would you be willing to share your previous experience there with me?" Pro tip: Target people who worked in your new role. Just heard back on my latest interview. It seemed like a great match of company, people, and location but there was one topic they were very caught up on. They kept asking about each role and how many people I managed. It seemed like they wanted to hire someone who sits in a corner office and approves timesheets rather than a leader who works on projects directly. I have always had roles where I work with a team to get things done in more of flat structure or matrix organization. I spoke about that and how managing budgets, meetings, and finances in volunteer roles blend with my background of working to get projects done in the corporate world. I was told the reason they chose me for an interview was my broad skills and mix of roles. Each interview sheds light into a company’s focus. Company structure mismatch was definitely a new issue for me. Usually they do not seem to enjoy things like certain fields of experience, too much education, or resume gaps. The search continues for a company who sees candidates for their potential. #jobsearch #opentowork
