I am ready to beg at this point. Facing eviction is hard. it's not only hurting me but also my two kids and this job search is exhausting. I just simply want to work again. I can learn anything, I can adapt to the culture. I want to provide for my kids and elevate my career. I might not check off every box from the beginning but I am determined and motivated. My post went viral and I still got ghosted. I applied and never heard anything. Why are people playing with our emotions like this? Someone please actually help. I am not expecting anything to be handed to me but I want the opportunity to at least share my experience outside of just sending my resume. I have a lot of passion and skills that will be useful to brands. I just need an opportunity I am literally out of time. Telling jobseekers they should accept any job isn’t helpful. Because many jobseekers I know DO apply to Target or Walmart and can’t get hired. Jobseekers are doing the best they can. They’re applying for seasonal jobs in retail now. They apply online, e-mail hiring managers, go on company websites, use job boards. They’re listening to the advice of many “experts” , updating resumes, prepping for job interviews. Many are changing their must-haves for a job to nice to haves. Some have abandoned remote work desires for hybrid or in office. Yea, some jobseekers aren’t doing the right things. Some won’t budge. But instead of so many posts here telling jobseekers they’re wrong, they’re not enough, they’re not motivated… Maybe we can put the blame where it belongs… on companies who have laid off employees. We can’t control what companies choose to do, we can only control how we show up I assure you, many jobseekers are showing up. How do I know? I was that laid off off person who was called lazy, negative, and told I needed to do more/better/different. And I was doing it all. Sometimes it really is about timing and luck. More support. It's been a month since I started applying to jobs after being laid off. It's been an exhausting process, but it has taught me a lot about what I want in a career. I've also learned that job descriptions and responsibilities can be very varied for the same role. Here are some numbers for you: I've applied to 280 jobs, had 23 first-round calls that didn't move forward due to distance, hours, salary, or true role responsibilities. I've had 6 roles move forward in interviews, but I was ghosted somewhere in the interview process. I've received 2 job offers, but they came with close to a 30% decrease in pay and required working full-time in the office. I've had 2 other close ones, but the timing wasn't right for the company. I'm currently in the process with 3 more, and I'm close to the final round so fingers crossed the right one sticks. To all the folks still looking, I feel you. "Empowering Careers: Helping Others to Achieve Their Job Goals..." When I switched my last job I had a few offers in hand. So wherever I didn't join, I referred someone who was looking for a new job opportunity. After joining the current organization, I intentionally didn't update my profiles on the job portals and was getting calls and for every call I received, I referred some profiles of the job seekers matching the requirements. If you just started a new position and are still getting calls from the recruiter, then don't just hang up saying "Currently I am not looking for a job change". Rather, ask about the requirements and then refer anyone who can be the best fit for the role. Dear job seekers, I want to clear up a common misunderstanding: many think Monday to Friday is the prime time to apply for jobs. But that's not entirely true. Believe it or not, about 80% of HR teams actually review applications and hire people over the weekend, specifically on Saturday and Sunday. So, don't overlook these days for job hunting! However, keep in mind that whether you get hired or not, or if HR goes with a referral, is mostly up to chance and their preferences. So, good luck with your job search! Remember to keep applying for roles, especially on weekends. Don't think of Saturdays and Sundays as days off—they could be your ticket to a new job! Dear Hiring Managers and Recruiters, You ALL know what happens when you assume... So, when you see a gap in employment, don't assume this person is a job hopper, or that they got fired for some reason that would make them not hirable for you. Stop, reach out, and ASK THEM! Everyone is human and everyone has a story. I guarantee you're missing out on great talent by not even asking the question, assuming, and just moving on. Maybe they... -took time off to have and raise kids. (let's not even start on how having kids is NOT EVER a reason to not consider someone for a job) -went back to college. -had to care for a sick or dying relative. -retired and decided to go back to work. -have been laidoff for the past 8 months and are still looking for a job. -have been working contract jobs. -have been working turn arounds. -had some of their own health issues. You will NEVER know if you DO NOT ask. So do yourself, your company, and those looking for work a favor. Ask the questions. Job Seekers: Have you seen what's out there? Be careful. I like to know what options I have for my career and will look at who is hiring and what they are hiring. There are a lot of companies that are offering opportunities, but not offering to pay you. Some are asking that you pay money to work for them, a "set up" cost. And other than on LinkedIn, when you click on a position you more and more windows open up, not showing you what you thought you were going to see. I haven't see such a mess in over a decade.
