BACK TO SCHOOL… BACK TO REALITY I consider myself fortunate to have not only a team of strong, empowered women but also a powerhouse mom on board at HR Studio. As the first full school week of 2024 wraps up, I asked about the experience of our HR Studio rockstar mom, Reitumetse Nkwane, having her little one back at school and how it was for both of them? And here is what she shared: “The first day of school in my household will always be a bit chaotic regardless of how “prepared” I THINK I am, in reality you can never be prepared or in control of challenges such as little ones moods, navigating traffic, angry parent’s road rage as we all rush to make it on time, etc. To new school mommies and daddies here are a few things I have found helpful: - Pre-pack ANYTHING YOU CAN e.g. lunch, breakfast, vitamins, school books. - Lay out school uniform and pack it and polish school shoes the night before. - Ensure kids get enough sleep. - Wake up early. - Establish a routine that works for both you and your child. - Include them in decision-making for things within their control e.g. which school bag to buy. You would be surprised how the smallest things will get them excited for school. - Last but not least, practice affirmations regularly. Remind them of their bravery, intelligence, kindness, strength, etc. Encourage them to always believe in themselves and that the sky is NOT the limit. Kids might not always want to talk about their day. Share your experiences with them of things that happened when you were in school to get them to warm up."
