Why am I seeing so many posts about disability community orgs across Australia who are about to enter the new financial year with their funding slashed? We're talking cuts of over 50%! Not only are many of their employees about to be out of a job, but the crucial services and programs they deliver to disabled people are about to be deeply wounded, or dead. That's a rhetorical 'Why', of course, but it doesn't bode well for NDIS participants; it doesn't bode well for those of us unable to access the NDIS; and it doesn't bode well for our still mysterious Foundational Supports, either. #ndis #DisabilityRights #DisabilityInclusion #FoundationalSupports #DisabilityRightsareHumanRights

Peer Worker & President - Board of Directors @ Diversity and Disability Alliance (DDA) | NDIA Participant First Reference Group Member | Universal Access Advisory Committee Member @ Canterbury-Bankstown Council
I had the opportunity to attend the NDIS Forum held by the Independent Federal Member for Fowler, Dai Le MP , where the Hon. Bill Shorten MP spoke about the future of the NDIS and the new legislation impacting people with disability and their carers. It was encouraging to hear Bill Shorten address the ongoing changes and answer concerns raised by members of our local community. The discussions covered critical areas like the evolving role of support coordinators, transparency in provider practices, and the need for improved access to services for people with disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. These are all important steps, but there is still much more to be done.I hope to see more disability-related events held in the Fowler electorate and, more importantly, disability inclusion taken a lot more seriously than it currently is. We need consistent action to ensure that every individual, regardless of ability, is fully included and supported within our community. #NDIS #DisabilityInclusion #FowlerElectorate #DaiLeMP #BillShortenMP #CommunityAdvocacy #DisabilityRights #InclusionMatters #CALDCommunities #SupportCoordination #AccessibilityForAll #DisabilityAwareness #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

😮 71% of Australians with disabilities still lack essential support, despite the benefits of programs like the NDIS, home care packages and other community services. At ASI Index we celebrate these initiatives but also acknowledge the ongoing work needed to fill these gaps and ensure comprehensive care for all. It’s time to examine this problem from another angle? If environments, homes and venues were designed for access and inclusion perhaps the level of support people would need to thrive each day would reduce… 🤔 💭 Source: People with Disability Australia, 2020. #NDIS #HomeCare #DisabilitySupport #InclusiveAustralia #BridgingGaps #AccessibilityAwareness #Disability #AdvanceQLD

Tomorrow is the 51st anniversary of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Section 504 forbids organizations and employers from excluding or denying individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity to receive program benefits and services. It defines the rights of individuals with disabilities to participate in, and have access to, program benefits and services. #SocialWork #Diversity #Inclusion #disability #ethnicity The emphasis on NDIS-specific roles and policies in the disability accreditation specialisation outlined by the Australian Association of Social Workers might limit its applicability to non-NDIS disabilities, particularly in ethnically diverse communities. This could result in a lack of appropriate services and advocacy for these groups, further marginalising them within the broader disability sector. To address this, social work education and qualifications should be more inclusive, adaptable, and culturally competent, going beyond the NDIS framework to effectively engage with and support individuals from diverse backgrounds.
