🇨🇵 (2/2) France is Investing in Biotech Innovation:
Last week, I attended Viva Technology 2024 and discovered that France represented more biotech-based startups than any other country. Let’s dive into the CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique stand, one of the biggest scientific institutions in French research:
LACTIPS
TECH: Lactips develops bioplastics from milk protein (casein). Their products are 100% bio-based, biodegradable, and water-soluble, making them an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastics. These bioplastics can be used for various applications, including packaging for detergents, food, and other products that benefit from water solubility and biodegradability.
BUSINESS: Lactips has secured funding with 4 rounds and have the support from the French government and private investors. Their objective is to scale up production and expand its market presence, by building their own manufacturing site and exploring new applications for their bioplastics in different industries. They may also expand its technology to other protein sources, which would decrease the cost of milk-based plastics.
HEPHAISTOS-Pharma
(Which I had not the opportunity to speak with but is worth to share)
TECH: Their aim is to treat non-respomdomg cancers, or "cold tumors", by developing the next generation of immunomodulators. Its strategy includes a mAb which should block the passivation pathways of the immune cells within the tumor to make it sensitive to treatment again.
BUSINESS: With their last fundraising round, they raised €10.3 M to push their product to the clinical stage. Furthermore, half of it involves non-dilutive capitalization, which shows the great potential of their ONCO-Boost treatment.
That's all for the CNRS, but there were more French exhibitors, which I will cover in the following weeks.
I hope to see how these companies perform in the future and wish you the best.
I look forward to connecting with fellow attendees/presenters. Feel free to reach out if you want to discuss anything!
