🌍 Key Insights from the Second NWA-ORC Webinar on Maternal and Child Health in LMICs 🌍 As we continue the NWA-ORC webinar series focused on maternal and child health in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), here are four key insights from the second session with Koiwah Koi Larbi BSc, LL.B, LL.M as speaker and Godelieve Van Heteren and Emmanuel Ojo, PhD as moderators: 1️⃣ Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Approaches Koiwah emphasised the need for interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and international collaboration to address the complex challenges in maternal and child health and reduce scientific waste. This aligns with the Dutch Research Council's upcoming NWA-ORC research call, which seeks to engage diverse partners from both research and societal contexts. 2️⃣ Involving patients and communities in research is essential The presentation underscored the importance of community and patient engagement. This is both an ethical imperative, as elaborated in the CIOMS International Ethical Guidelines for Health-Related Research Involving Humans, as well as a condition for sustainable research impact. 3️⃣ Patient and community engagement in research required dedicated efforts Koiwah’s presentation highlighted lessons learned from the Action on Preeclampsia Ghana experiences in research. Research needs to build their capacity to meaningfully engage patients and communities, ensure adequate budget, collaborate with patient organizations or community leaders, and ensure timely reporting back to the community. She emphasised Community & Patient Engagement in research is an ongoing investment, rather than a one-off event. 🚨 Reminder: The second webinar is the 18th of September at 16:00 CET! Join us to contribute to shaping the NWA-ORC research call on "The 1st 1000 days, mother and child in Low and Middle-Income settings." You can expect valuable insights from Titus K. Beyuo MD, PhD, FWACS,FGCS, MPhil., dr. Indah K Murni, and dr. Delighted to share our recent research with Asli Davas on the determinants of oral health in elderly populations in Turkey, which will be presented at the European Public Health Conference! 🦷 👵 👴 Our study, based on data from the Turkey Health Survey (THS) 2022, examines critical factors influencing oral health among individuals aged 65 and over. Our findings indicate: 🔹 25.8% of elderly individuals report poor oral health 🏥 75.2% have not received dental care in the past year 🔹 Multimorbidity and language barriers are strongly associated with worse oral health outcomes. Employment status, education, access to social support and unmet dental care need due to cost also play crucial roles. Our findings underscore the need to improve access to dental care and address socioeconomic barriers for Turkey’s elderly. By prioritizing these efforts, we hope to contribute to policies that enhance access to oral healthcare, ultimately supporting better health and quality of life. As a community-based organization with the desire to transform systems through equity-centered education and prevention-focused research, Nurturely has been slowly working on conducting studies and publishing/disseminating data to end disparities in perinatal health. Our research focuses on preventative solutions - from traditional practices like baby carrying that have been overlooked by Western science - that could be easily implemented to improve postpartum health outcomes. But it's tough to build research capacity and funding while simultaneously delivering quality community-based programming. The mentorship, support, and resources gained as a finalist in the National Institutes of Health's IMPROVE Initiative has been invaluable (and filled some critical gaps that are left out of most PhD programs....). This Initiative, led by Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) with great mentors like Jennifer Wisdom, Maurice Davis, and Juanita J. Chinn, Ph.D., has provided a roadmap and support to us and fellow community-based orgs working to move the needle on maternal health equity solutions. We have a lot of great research brewing and can't wait to share our initial progress as this challenge wraps up in June...! https://lnkd.in/ggPssJ_U

🚩In June 2023, our #ApresJ20 association was asked by the #CNAM and the french government to participate in the development of the #LongCovid information space on the http://santé.fr website. 🚩We agreed to take part in these working groups, considering that this space would be a further step in the #recognition of adult #LongCovid and paediatric #LongCovid, and that we advocate patient involvement. https://lnkd.in/gC_Xq-85 🚩During the many working groups that brought together healthcare professionals from different specialities, we defended and raised the voice of patients, and also shared scientific articles so that the site's resources were evidence-based (EBM). 🚩 We gave precise feedback on the texts to take account of experiential and scientific knowledge. ⚠️Following to certain sticking points, certain compromises were then made by the editors of the http://santé.fr website and we are not responsible for the content that was then validated and put online. ⚠️We particularly deplore the mention of psychosocial and psychosomatic aspects as causes or aggravating factors of #LongCovid, particularly in children, as these hypotheses (not based on evidence) are detrimental to the treatment of patients. ⚠️We would also like to make it clear that this information site is not the census platform as indicated in the law of 24 January 2022 proposed by MP Michel Zumkeller and unanimously adopted. #LongCovidLaw @MichelZumkeller https://lnkd.in/g95fg5xC 🚩 We are still calling for this law to be applied, and from the outset we have defended the need to register patients in France including minors. 🚩 We are aware that not everything is perfect and that certain points still need to be improved or reviewed. 🚩 We take note of the various comments and will not fail to pass them on to the working group for improvement, as this thematic area is intended to evolve over time and as progress is made on the subject. 🚩 Nonetheless, we believe that this space is a first step forward in #communication and #recognition of #LongCovid and that it allows us to highlight the advances in worldwide #research on this pathology. 🚩 A big thank you to all the volunteers who took part in this long project. 🎯Let's continue to raise awareness of adult and paediatric #LongCovid !🎯 Dominique Martin Karine Lecamus-Allart Rachel Duriez French Ministry of Health Ministère de la Santé CNAM assurance maladie Frédéric Valletoux Catherine Vautrin french Gouvernement Haute Autorité de Santé Santé publique France ANRS

I want to shed light on a crucial aspect of diabetes care: minority health. Did you know that communities like Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and Indigenous folks not only face higher rates of diabetes but also grapple with more severe complications, leading to a heavier burden of diabetes-related challenges? Behind these statistics lie real people, each with their own story and struggles. Many of them face systemic barriers, from limited access to healthcare to socioeconomic hurdles, which make managing diabetes even tougher. But here's the thing: together, we can make a difference. By promoting access to diabetes management education and providing culturally sensitive care, we can empower these communities to tackle diabetes head-on and lead healthier lives. I'm proud that embecta has such strong relationships with advocacy organizations that help us reach and support these historically marginalized communities and ensure access to diabetes management tools is more and more equitable. This Minority Health Month, let's not just talk about it; let's take action. Because every person deserves the chance to thrive, no matter their background. How do you support #MinorityHealth in your practice? I invite you to learn more about National Minority Health Month 2024 here: https://lnkd.in/eJ9VUWfC #DiabetesCare

🗣Read "Maternal satisfaction with group care: a systematic review" that explores how group care affects maternal satisfaction compared to individual care. The results show that mothers tend to be more satisfied with group care. This is because group care combines clinical assessments with discussions about health promotion and opportunities to build a sense of community. Additionally, Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) contributed to this paper, adding valuable insights. 📄🤰🤱

Founder The Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Global Health Amb WHO Foundation, Advocate, RMNCAH+N, Social Care, EmONC, WASH, Rise of Women & Girls. Mrs, Mother, Grandma!
As a member of the World Health Organization Civil Society Commission, an accredited non-State actor of the World Health Organization African Region Committee, and a member of the WHO Implementing Best Practices #IBP Network, The Wellbeing Foundation Africa and I, were pleased to participate in and applaud the launch of the Networks of Care for Maternal and Newborn Health WHO's Implementation Guidance today. Networks of Care (NoC) are an innovative approach to strengthening primary care and maternal and newborn health services, focusing on cultivating relationships among health system stakeholders and enhancing relational elements such as multidisciplinary teamwork, leadership, and communication. These networks exist in diverse contexts, with existing studies demonstrating their effectiveness in improving quality of care and clinical outcomes for mothers and newborns. This first implementation guidance on Networks of Care for Maternal and Newborn Health provides a comprehensive framework that outlines the structural and relational elements that compose these networks and presents an overview of the evidence supporting their efficacy, through offering practical examples for establishing NoC’s, addressing critical financing, and outlining considerations for sustaining these networks over time. Additionally, it identifies development areas for future research to further advance the field. #WBFA recognises that empowered and educated patients are essential to a population’s good health and wellbeing outcomes, therefore the foundation is committed to the NoCs approach as a promising pathway to enhancing primary health care, which is vital for delivering 90% of universal health care services. By promoting strong linkages between community and hospital settings, Networks of Care not only foster collaborative management but also ensure the continuity of care for mothers and newborns. As we move forward, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa and I will actively engage in implementing these strategies to improve quality of care and outcomes, ensuring that every woman and newborn receives the compassionate, person-centred care they deserve. #WellbeingForAll #PartnershipsForChange #NetworksofCare #MNCH
