🌟Invitation to provide feedback on the European Health Data Space (#EHDS): Your input matters!🌟 Since 2019, #ScanBalt has been actively involved in EHDS development. Now, alongside the EU-funded project EDAH - European Data Space in Health, we're gathering input from key stakeholders like you. Your insights will help ensure EHDS aligns with the diverse needs of the stakeholders. ❗️Participate in a brief survey to rate the relevance of the EHDS topics to your organization. The individual assessments are compiled into a summary that together with the declaration draft formulated based on the summary will be presented at the conference "EHDS - for data-driven health transformation" organized on 30 May 2024 in Brussels. Consequently, the joint declaration will be published and shared with policymakers as a reference to position papers and support for implementing the EHDS. The Lancet Global Health has published an open-access article on "Contemporary challenges to health information for all". Challenges highlighted are ubiquitous: information overload, infodemics, and struggle to achieve equity. What is more important, the authors pinpoint the lack of simple solutions and the need for complex interventions: 1️⃣ Tailored health information with understanding the specific needs of different end-users ensures that the information is relevant and impactful. 2️⃣ Empowering trusted intermediaries (health professionals and local opinion leaders) to channel information to those who need it most. 3️⃣ Enhancing public confidence in science and combating misinformation is an ongoing effort to appeal to both rational understanding and emotional reassurance. High-quality #laboratoryservices are the unsung heroes of effective health systems, playing a crucial role in guiding treatment decisions, combating #antimicrobialresistance, and monitoring emerging health threats. Yet despite their critical importance, laboratories, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, often struggle due to weak operational infrastructure, unreliable #supplychains, and a general scarcity of resources and expertise. I had the privilege of collaborating recently with colleagues from @Mott MacDonald and @ICF on an insightful action report, "Why Laboratory Investment Matters: Rethinking the Role of Laboratory Services in Global Health," that sheds light on these challenges and presents viable solutions for addressing them. Our report—which was presented at a recent one-day conference in Washington, DC, sponsored by @Management Sciences for Health, Mott MacDonald and ICF—stresses the importance of integrating laboratory networks, fostering partnerships with the private sector, professionalizing the sector, and ensuring equitable access to clinical services as pivotal steps toward improvement. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the #globalhealth community has increasingly recognized the imperative of establishing and maintaining strong laboratory and diagnostic capacities worldwide. This moment presents a unique opportunity to turn our good intentions into concrete, impactful investments throughout the healthcare system. By working together, we can fortify laboratory services and build a healthier future for all. Today is World Health Day 🌎 🩺 This year's theme, “My health, my right,” highlights the need for access to high-quality healthcare for all. The rapid advancement of therapies, diagnostics, and digital technologies in fields such as healthcare has been revolutionary. However, accessibility remains a significant challenge for many individuals and communities worldwide. The Wesley Research Institute supports the World Health Organisation's (WHO) mission for equitable access to treatments for life-threatening diseases and illnesses, availability of safe and timely health services and access to vital medicines globally. World Health Day shines a spotlight on important public health issues and the significant roles played by medical providers, researchers, scientists and governments globally. We asked Dr Elizabeth Martin, Health Services Research Program Lead, what this day means to her. "Championing health as a priority and investing in health research is imperative. By focusing our efforts on health services research, we can guide the funding and reorganisation of health services. Evidence-based decisions on health system design can make a large impact on communities in Australia and worldwide - shifting resources so that more people can receive care when they need it most". Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden are leading the charge in leveraging health data to ultimately improve patient outcomes. 👏🏻 🌎 Before the adoption of the regulation for a European Health Data Space (EHDS), these countries were already taking measures to collect and centralise patient data for research, treatment decisions, or policy-making. ✅ All 4 had in place a unique patient ID enabling data linkage, and Finland and Sweden had already started elaborating standards or systems to assess data quality. The implementation of the EHDS aims to facilitate the sharing and use of health data, including between Member States, with standards harmonised at the EU level. 👉🏻 Discover in further detail the approach these health systems had towards health data at the time of the EHDS proposal: https://lnkd.in/eH4stgzi. *The National Health Data Sources need to be treated as ‘living documents’, and updates will be sought on an annual basis. #RWE #Healthcare #HTA #EUROPE
