Sky's MVNO delayed in Ireland until second half of 2024 The largest #PayTV service provider in Ireland, had announced in 2022 that it would launch its mobile virtual network operators (#MVNO) Sky Mobile in Ireland in 2023 However, the company says it will not launch its mobile service in Ireland until the second half of this year where it will become the eight MVNO operating in Ireland. Four of the other MVNOs – Tesco, Virgin, 48 and Lyca – operate on Three’s mobile network, while An Post Mobile and Clear Mobile operates on Vodafone’s infrastructure. GoMo uses Eir’s mobile network. When launched, the Sky Mobile offering is expected to be marketed aggressively as part of a quad play bundle that includes its TV, broadband, fixed line phone and mobile services. In the UK, where Sky has had its MVNO service for some time, it competes aggressively on price, as well as offering functionality that works with Apple Watch, a service that is currently unavailable in the Irish market. Last month, Sky announced #SkyMobile in Italy, to be launched later this year. While MVNO have kept their average mobile tariffs down in Ireland, contract plans from Vodafone, Three and Eir now automatically rise each year according to the inflation rate plus an additional percentage which varies according to each operator https://lnkd.in/gUskJRgv

We surveyed 1000 homeowners about their attitudes to their #broadband providers to understand their drivers to change providers and what issues they faced with their service. There has been a huge investment into the UK #altnet space and our research in this market shows that many providers have no viable route to profitability and will require future investment to survive - where this investment comes from will be a challenge as subscriber numbers have not been as buoyant as expected. With many homeowners satisfied with their broadband speeds and current provider, bundled offers being key drivers to choosing a provider, and many not expecting their usage to increase dramatically in the next few years, alternative providers need to look at customer service or discounts to win new logos - both which can reduce profitability if not done correctly. Unless you're channelling some serious early noughties energy and are the owner of a Nokia 3310 with a pay-as-you-go contract, there’s finally some good(ish) news on mid-contract price rises for broadband and mobile. Ofcom isn’t banning the practice entirely – but price rises will now need to be communicated clearly to customers from January 2025. New customers signing up will see what the price rise is going to be in pounds and pence, rather than CPI + an arbitrary 3.9%. Customers have been on the receiving end of eye-watering prices rises over the last 2 years. Our Nous analysis found that a typical UK household - comprising four people with a mobile phone contract each plus broadband - have been left £470 worse off over two years as a result of these price hikes. Last year households were hit by increases between 14.4% and 17.3%, driven by the UK’s 10.5% inflation rate at the time. Along with other organisations like Citizens Advice and Which?, we’ve been campaigning on this for a while. In addition to their retail channels, service providers have developed their own digital channels and apps, for example, to optimize self-services and billing as well as to provide personalized campaign offers. Service providers often enjoy a relationship of trust with their subscribers and have a route to market through established processes, channels and billing mechanisms.
