Are you up to date on the new HazCom Standard Effective July 19? OSHA is updating the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to align with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), particularly Revision 7. This amendment aims to address issues from the 2012 HCS update, better synchronize with other U.S. agencies and global partners, and enhance the standard's effectiveness. By assessing and improving existing rules, OSHA seeks to ensure employees are adequately informed about chemical hazards, thus reducing workplace illnesses and injuries. Changes include updated criteria for classifying health and physical hazards, revised label updating provisions, new labeling rules for small containers, provisions for safeguarding trade secrets, technical amendments for safety data sheets (SDSs), and adjustments to standard terminology. #EHS #SDS #CUPA #Healthandsafety #OSHA Click here to look at our GHS HazCom labels https://lnkd.in/gu_q8U8

GHS Refresher: Understanding Hazard Communication Standard It's always a good time for a quick refresher on OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and its alignment with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). As a reminder, the HCS ensures workers have access to information about the chemicals they handle in the workplace. This includes: Chemical identities and their associated hazards. Labels with harmonized information: Signal words (e.g., danger, warning) Pictograms (symbols) Hazard statements Precautionary statements Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in a specific 16-section format. These requirements apply to: Chemical manufacturers and importers: They must evaluate chemicals, prepare labels and SDSs. Employers with hazardous chemicals in their workplaces: They must provide labels and SDSs to exposed workers and train them on safe handling practices. The HCS adoption of GHS aims to: Ensure a common and clear approach to classifying chemicals and communicating hazard information. Reduce trade barriers and improve productivity for businesses. Minimize costs associated with updating safety materials. For more details or if you have any questions, please refer to OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard webpage: https://lnkd.in/ewBXktb2.
