Aaron Silva, a candidate for Place 5, made misleading and insulting statements at the Westlake Chamber of Commerce candidate forum about the Eanes Education Foundation (EEF). Facts: - EEF has a paid Executive Director, Dana DeLorenzo. She is amazing and has grown our large donor base over the last few years - EEF funds teachers 48-50 per year for the last 6-8 years. Last year EEF provided annual bonus to all teachers and staff on top of funding 50 teachers. - EEF has an endowment that is now paying out to EEF (and therefore the district….creating a sustainable giving model to support the district. - The endowment has provided an avenue for donors to support special interest. - These opportunities come through EEF and the Endowment board, not the EISD School Board. - The EEF Board is very diverse with board members from every campus. - EEF has one mission: to fund teachers. Please do your research and reach out to Kelly for any questions. #eanes4kelly #kellyknowseanes #eanesknowskelly #kellyshowsup #credible #authentic #servantleader #reliable #consistent #thorough #focused

I am amazed at what a single movement can do for non profits, particularly our school. Today is Giving Tuesday and like many organizations, we secured a matching fund of $40,000 to inspire our alumni, current families and alumni parents to give today, and double their dollars. But it's become my favorite day on the giving calendar because of conversations like the one I had with Jack Dowd. Jack graduated from St. Charles in 1949, which makes him 93 years young! He wanted to give his donation over the phone...and also share that Ocala, FL is a great place to live. (*noted!) He said he was happy, healthy and has learned that a long life is about "movement." He has no email address and still uses a flip phone, walks his dog every day and sometimes rides his bike. His biggest tip: don't ever give up driving your car, it limits your freedom! He was sharp as a tack, delightful and witty. These conversations are gifts to those of us on our development team. They remind us of the very personal experience that our alums have with St. Charles, show us the importance of giving back, and are proof that we do, in fact, Build Better Men. What does a campaign like Giving Tuesday mean for St. Charles? It means we can continue developing young men in an all-boys environment, centered around faith and rigorous academics, with the goal of every young man achieving his God-given potential. It means we can accommodate our growing enrollment and the need for additional faculty, staff and classrooms. It means we can invest in emergency equipment for new buildings, refurbishment needs of our historical spaces, weekend junior and senior religious retreats, unique speakers and programs, faculty and staff professional development and more. There's still time to give today and help us "meet the match." Go to: www.scprepgive.org and direct your gift to the annual fund. Wanna help us beat last year's goal? We need 63 givers in this next hour to stay above pace from last year at this time. Alums, please message me if you prefer to give through DAF, check or a gift of stock. #buildingbettermen #todaysboystomorrowsmen. #givingtuesday

The Oregon Quality Education Model became public Friday, calling for a $13.5 billion State School Fund to meet Oregon’s K-12 public education goals. The model, with more data and explanatory context than previous iterations, will sharpen the conversation in coming months about what it means to fully fund Oregon education, said Emielle Nischik, OSBA interim executive director. “We need to be talking about what our students need, the very definition of adequate funding,” Nischik said. “That is what the model is designed to do.” https://bit.ly/3WyTT86 #oregon #publicschools #educationmatters #quality #education #learning #school #funding #schoolfunding #schoolboards

HOW IS CAMDEN’S INNOVATIVE SCHOOL SYSTEM MOVING THE NEEDLE FOR NEW JERSEY STUDENTS? “Amid all the bad news in the post-pandemic public education sphere, there is a bright spot in a surprising city, Camden, New Jersey. There, students, while suffering steep learning losses so common in low-income districts, are finding their way forward through the collaboration of three different public school sectors: district, charter, and an unusual hybrid called “renaissance schools.” These renaissance schools, authorized by a law that let Camden approve partnerships with high-performing, nonprofit charter school networks willing to take on the lowest-performing schools, are driving the city’s learning gains. As such, the story of Camden’s “comeback,” described in a new report by Camden Education Fund, provides a blueprint for an innovative model of public education, not just in New Jersey but throughout the country.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gNxe-PTB #schooldistricts #education #renaissanceschools

While the sticker price for some private, nonprofit universities has ballooned to as much as $100,000, the average net price (after institutional grant aid is deducted from the sticker price) has actually dropped in recent years and is now around $16,000. For public colleges, the average net price has also been dropping and is now just under $2,500.

Special Consideration for College Applications is Over! California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a groundbreaking bill that officially ends preferential treatment for wealthy families, alumni connections, and donations in the college admissions process. This new legislation applies to private non-profit universities, where factors such as legacy status (having relatives who are alumni) and financial contributions will no longer influence admissions decisions. Instead, the focus will shift to merit and qualifications, ensuring a level playing field for all students, regardless of their background or financial status. This law marks a significant step towards prioritizing hard work, dedication, and academic achievements in admissions. These changes highlight California’s commitment to making higher education more inclusive, fair, and accessible, giving every student an equal opportunity to succeed. 🌟 #HigherEducation #EqualOpportunity #FairnessInAdmissions

The Department of Political Science depends on the support of alumni/ae to maintain and expand its programs for undergraduates; to provide first-rate training for graduate students; and to recruit and retain an excellent faculty. A $5 million gift to Arts from G. Garvin Brown IV, BA ’91, and his wife Steffanie Diamond Brown has established the Diamond-Brown Chair in Democratic Studies. Other recent major gifts include $50,000 from Eren Eren, BA '09, to recruit and support MA students in North American politics and in political theory; and $250,000 from the Lemieux Family Foundation for dissertation completion fellowships for Ph.D. students. More than 20% of our graduate student funding comes from philanthropic gifts from alumni/ae and other friends. Most donors give in the $250-$2500 range, and such gifts are crucial to allow a rapidly growing department to handle many needs at all levels, from unexpected opportunities and needs for student activities, to matching funds that allow our researchers to apply for major external grants. Those gifts provided much-needed flexibility to take advantage of strategic opportunities as they come up, a flexibility that is otherwise hard to come by under the budgeting rules that govern public universities in Québec. We are very grateful for gifts of all sizes that allow us to continue to provide a world-class educational and research environment! https://lnkd.in/e5XTRCnH
