I am amazed at what a single movement can do for non profits, particularly our school. Today is Giving Tuesday and like many organizations, we secured a matching fund of $40,000 to inspire our alumni, current families and alumni parents to give today, and double their dollars. But it's become my favorite day on the giving calendar because of conversations like the one I had with Jack Dowd. Jack graduated from St. Charles in 1949, which makes him 93 years young! He wanted to give his donation over the phone...and also share that Ocala, FL is a great place to live. (*noted!) He said he was happy, healthy and has learned that a long life is about "movement." He has no email address and still uses a flip phone, walks his dog every day and sometimes rides his bike. His biggest tip: don't ever give up driving your car, it limits your freedom! He was sharp as a tack, delightful and witty. These conversations are gifts to those of us on our development team. They remind us of the very personal experience that our alums have with St. Charles, show us the importance of giving back, and are proof that we do, in fact, Build Better Men. What does a campaign like Giving Tuesday mean for St. Charles? It means we can continue developing young men in an all-boys environment, centered around faith and rigorous academics, with the goal of every young man achieving his God-given potential. It means we can accommodate our growing enrollment and the need for additional faculty, staff and classrooms. It means we can invest in emergency equipment for new buildings, refurbishment needs of our historical spaces, weekend junior and senior religious retreats, unique speakers and programs, faculty and staff professional development and more. There's still time to give today and help us "meet the match." Go to: www.scprepgive.org and direct your gift to the annual fund. Wanna help us beat last year's goal? We need 63 givers in this next hour to stay above pace from last year at this time. Alums, please message me if you prefer to give through DAF, check or a gift of stock. #buildingbettermen #todaysboystomorrowsmen. #givingtuesday

#GivingTuesday is here and we need your help to reach our goal of $125,000! There's never been a better time to give - every dollar donated until we reach our goal is being matched. Last year, you helped us to raise over $117,000 to enroll more students and implement new initiatives. Since 2017, PVD Promise has grown to serve 1,300 students from 700 #Providence families. Students have saved $2.36M in college savings accounts toward their future education. Last fiscal year (July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024), we hosted 110 programs for 2,600 students, not including our robust Youth Mentorship Program and on-going advising meetings. We also provided $310,000 in "Early Scholarships" directly to students' savings accounts for positive, educational activities. We've grown our Youth Mentorship Program to now serve 40 middle and high school students, implemented a new Alumni Program to help students who have graduated high school persist through their post-secondary program, and much more. Providence Promise is changing the narrative for hundreds of local families by encouraging early financial planning, preparation, and conversations regarding education after high school. Double your impact today at the link below and help us transform access to higher education for 1,300 youth in Providence, RI: https://lnkd.in/eZ3mjfSu. #highereducation #highereducationforall #educationalaccess #accessmatters #providence #rhodeisland #providenceri

Here’s what high school juniors and seniors should consider as they begin preparing for college.
Parenting a high school senior is not for the faint of heart. Great interview this morning with Barry University's Provost Dr. Pablo Ortiz on the areas parents and students need to consider including the SAT going completely digital - no more scantrons?!?! #PublicRelations #NonProfitPublicRelations #EducationPublicRelations https://lnkd.in/dShRjuPQ

🌱 The Power of a Mustard Seed, ACE Scholarships, and the Significance of Father’s Day As we celebrate Father’s Day, I'm reminded of the incredible role fathers play in nurturing the dreams and aspirations of their children. Much like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, can grow into the largest of garden plants, so too can a small act of generosity grow into a life-changing opportunity. At ACE Scholarships we believe in the transformative power of educational choice. Each scholarship we provide is like a tiny mustard seed, filled with the potential to flourish into something magnificent. These scholarships enable children to attend schools that best fit their needs, fostering environments where they can thrive academically and personally. Fathers are often the ones who plant these seeds of hope, encouraging their children to dream big and work hard. We've seen firsthand how these opportunities can change the trajectory of a child's life, turning dreams into realities. It’s a reminder that even the smallest contributions can have a profound impact when nurtured with care and dedication. This Father’s Day, let's honor the fathers who inspire, guide, and support their children’s educational journeys. By supporting ACE Scholarships you're not just funding an education; you're planting a seed of hope, growth, and endless possibilities for future generations. Together, let's continue to sow these seeds and witness the extraordinary gardens they become. https://lnkd.in/gbDtyC8x #FathersDay #EducationalChoice #ACEsScholarships #Inspiration #Hope #Growth #PlantingSeeds

In an unexpected plot twist that has education policy makers scratching their heads, Jay-Z threw his weight behind the proposed $100 million PASS program that would provide scholarships to students in Pennsylvania’s lowest-performing schools. Let's break it down: ▪️First, these aren't your Uncle Milton’s vouchers. Families could use the funds for private schools, yes, but also for various educational services and resources. ▪️It's less about abandoning ships and more about "building more lifeboats." The goal is to expand options for families with the greatest needs. ▪️As more states experiment with flexible funding models, the lines between traditional public, private, and alternative education options are blurring. With Jay-Z in the mix, the education reform debate just got much more interesting. Who knows, maybe we'll see Beyoncé leading a task force on STEM education next? 🐝 https://lnkd.in/gSzWX3-v

Aaron Silva, a candidate for Place 5, made misleading and insulting statements at the Westlake Chamber of Commerce candidate forum about the Eanes Education Foundation (EEF). Facts: - EEF has a paid Executive Director, Dana DeLorenzo. She is amazing and has grown our large donor base over the last few years - EEF funds teachers 48-50 per year for the last 6-8 years. Last year EEF provided annual bonus to all teachers and staff on top of funding 50 teachers. - EEF has an endowment that is now paying out to EEF (and therefore the district….creating a sustainable giving model to support the district. - The endowment has provided an avenue for donors to support special interest. - These opportunities come through EEF and the Endowment board, not the EISD School Board. - The EEF Board is very diverse with board members from every campus. - EEF has one mission: to fund teachers. Please do your research and reach out to Kelly for any questions. #eanes4kelly #kellyknowseanes #eanesknowskelly #kellyshowsup #credible #authentic #servantleader #reliable #consistent #thorough #focused

This week's TOP-bottom report is brought to you by the states of North Carolina and South Carolina. We look at the 55 private, non-profit regional colleges in these two states. Use the TOP-bottom report to draw your own conclusions. If you are student and their families, be prepared to ask tough questions for those NC and SC colleges that are consistently on the 'bottom' lists. Here are some questions you can ask. 1. Why has your enrollment been decreasing the past 8 reported years? 2. Why is your 4-year graduation rate below 50%? 3. Your endowment per student is lower than many other colleges. Why is that? 4. How can you stay open when your tuition and fee revenue continues to decrease? https://lnkd.in/gZqs2uJy #collegeviability #collegeadmissions #willmycollegeclose #collegeclosures

Monarch School Aims To Be A National Model For Serving Unhoused Students The Monarch School in Barrio Logan, just east of downtown San Diego, has a plan to help change the way unhoused students are taught in schools around the region and possibly all over the country. On October 10 at the annual Raise Up for Monarch fundraiser, the school will unveil Monarch Nexus: Center of Training and Innovation, launching a program that seeks to inspire change. “San Diego created something so proprietary that the rest of the world could benefit from knowing how we operate,” Monarch School CEO Afira Arrastia-DeVries says (pictured). “An ordinary kid not managing complex trauma is going to decide, ‘You know what? I’m going to be an artist…an athlete.’ Those paths get presented normally, comfortably and confidently.” Various studies cited by Monarch, where 100% of students are unhoused, show that being unhoused significantly impacts learning retention and increases post-education barriers, like gaining stable housing. Nearly 60% of students self-reported a feeling of a “fair” or “poor” job of support from their schools. “The beauty about Monarch School–the beauty of this place is when everyone here is dealing with similar circumstances, nobody has to feel limited by them,” DeVries says. Based on 35+ years of experience, the Monarch School Project has successfully targeted solutions for stabilizing the unhoused student demographic in San Diego. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gt2PakZT
