For this project, we chose: Flooring: Large-format porcelain tiles for durability and modern appeal. Walls: High-grade gypsum board finished with quality paint and accented with wood paneling. Ceiling: Acoustic panels with integrated LED lighting for a sleek look. Reception Desk: Custom-built using materials like marble and metal. Lighting Fixtures: Elegant, modern chandeliers and ambient lighting. Green Wall Feature: A vertical garden to introduce natural elements. Permits and Approvals Securing the necessary permits is a critical step. This includes building, electrical, and plumbing permits, along with ensuring ADA compliance and fire safety approvals. We handled all of these to ensure a smooth process and compliance with local regulations. Construction and Workforce A dedicated team, including a project manager, general contractor, and specialized contractors (electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians), worked cohesively to bring the design to life. The construction work on the new bathroom and addition has officially started, focusing on setting up the framework. The workers are measuring and cutting timber to fit the architectural blueprints accurately. The framing process is crucial as it establishes the basic structure of the room, supporting walls, floors, and ceiling. Precision is key to ensure the addition is visually appealing and structurally sound. Quality materials and adherence to regulations guarantee safety and durability. The best part of being an architect is seeing our designs come to life, creating lasting architecture that transforms how people use the buildings. We are currently overseeing a number of our projects on site, at varying stages of construction. Ranging is size, style and locations. This video shows the current situation on 5 of our sites (2 photos from each project). 1 – Currently our biggest project on site. This involves extending to the side and rear, while fully remodelling internally. The side extension is being build in a traditional style to complement the existing building, while the rear extension has a much more contemporary feel. 2 – The shell of this 2 storey extension is now complete and it’s ready for the internals. The extension creates an additional bedroom and en-suite to the first floor. With a new seating area linked to the existing kitchen-diner on the ground floor. 3 – A unique design for a single storey extension that creates a new kitchen-dining-living room. Externally there is a split roof line as well as step in the footprint. Internally a small curved wall adds interest to what could have been an ordinary utility wall. Things don’t always go smoothly on site. Here the wrong windows were fitted! Replacement ones should be on site soon. 4 – Currently our smallest project on site. Although modest in size the extension will transform the home for the owners. Giving a much needed utility room and an extra seating area looking over the garden. 5 – The side and rear extensions on this project were designed to be within permitted development guidelines and so planning approval was not required.
