#SAAA Members, In October 2023, San Antonio’s City Council approved ordinance 2023-10-19-0747, as part of a Citywide effort to support people experiencing domestic violence and help them easily find the assistance they need. The ordinance requires that all places of public accommodation post signage featuring domestic violence prevention resources in their restrooms. By the ordinance’s definition this includes apartment properties with 4 or more units. Apartment properties with 4 or more units, shall need to post the designated signage in the restrooms of the common areas of the property. These signs are not for individual unit restrooms, just restrooms in the common areas. The City of Melville has a long history of not caring about residents’ wellbeing and its ongoing appaing performance of enforcing compliance with the many laws for which it has primary jurisdiction on behalf of the State, such as health, dealing with rats, fire protection. This is yet another example! The new CEO, Ms Gail Bowman, has inherited an organisational mess worse than this squalid Mt Pleasant property, all thanks to her past 2 predecessors. So much needs to change. Ms Bowman stated the City is in advanced stages of investigating the matter, however Council needs to act to deal with the City’s failure to show concern for the property owners, and failure to protect residents from the quite obvious health, vermin and fire risks. The City has known about this uninhabital house, health and fire risks for a very long time. Council needs to grill the CEO and demand answers as to why this serious issue was not addressed years ago. We doubt the City would have done anything had it not been for a few passionate and persistent community members. The NSW Government is looking at tackling the housing crisis by overriding local government planning rules that prevent the development of medium density buildings. Their goal is to build another 112,000 homes across Greater Sydney, Hunter Valley, Central Coast and Illawarra. The new rules will mean that residents can't object having a townhouse or six-unit apartment block next door because of its height alone, which is causing a lot of controversy. 🏘️ There has been much frustration in recent years surrounding voids and vacant council houses. These properties,in Kerry and other local authorities, have been lying idle for far too long and funding has not been made available in order to make these houses liveable again. 💡A solution I proposed at a recent Kerry County Council meeting was to sell a percentage of this vacant stock for two reasons. 1️⃣ Proceeds of the sales could be ring fenced to repair other housing voids in states of disrepair. 2️⃣ Inject stock into private market that has major undersupply issues. https://lnkd.in/e8vSH37y
