Strategic intent refers to purposes of what the organisation strives for - senior managers must define “what they want to do” and “why they want to do”. 🚀 Components of Strategic Intent: 1. Vision: It depicts the organisation’s aspirations and provides a glimpse of what the organisation would like to become in the future. 🔮 2. Mission: It describes the firm’s business, its goals, and ways to reach goals. It explains the reason for the existence of the firm in society. 🌐 3. Goals and Objectives: Goals are the end result that the organisation attempts to achieve. Objectives are time-based measurable targets, helping in goal accomplishment. 🎯 4. Values/Value System: Values are deep-rooted principles guiding an organisation’s decisions and actions. They are the source of a company’s distinctiveness and must be maintained at all costs. 💼 As I was studying for my CA Intermediate Exams in May 24, I came across the concept of Strategic Intent in Chapter 1 of Paper 6B: Strategic Management. As mentioned in the first sentence, “Strategic Management refers to purposes of what the organisation strives for”. However, this concept is not just restricted to an organisation or a business enterprise. This concept is relevant for Individuals as well as establishing Vision, Formulating Mission, Setting Goals & Objectives and developing Values will enable us to find a reason for our existence and strive to achieve our goals for life. Inception of Strategic Intent for ourselves will make us lead a systematic, disciplined and target-oriented life.🌟 Do you agree? Feel free to share your views and share with me your insights on this. #StrategicIntent #VisionaryLeadership #MissionStatements #GoalsSetting #ValuesDrivenLife #StrategicManagement #LifeGoals #DisciplineYourLife #SuccessMindset

As you rise through the ranks in the Commercial department, you’ll begin to realise that it’s one thing being able to do the job but another to hone your skills to become a leader. Yes, you can work with numbers, produce valuations, compile a CVR for each site and cost to complete analysis, but you need management skills. These skills will be essential for all interactions, particularly site personnel and coworkers, supporting departments and suchlike. People forget that the QS career journey can be a lonely one, largely responsible for your own actions. Where does this magical management skill come from? How do you think as a leader? What if your boss isn’t a great leader or manager of people. Will you learn bad habits? As you climb the slippery pole to the bigger seats, take a look at how many interactions you’ve had and the tone of them. When you get to the bigger chairs, consider how you will impact everyone else in the department. This isn’t just about Commercial, it applies to all departments but when the role is quite siloed, it’s more important to recognise your own behaviour. Some leaders only have to look at someone to convey their feelings. Think what a difference it would make if they knew how to get the best from their team.

My first job as a bookkeeper placed me directly between two bosses - who were also husband and wife - with the same goals but vastly different approaches. Whenever I completed a project for one, the other would criticize the process, although they usually appreciated the final result, and vice versa. This inability to align their expectations with my process led to constant struggle and stress, ultimately resulting in my departure. Reflecting on this now, armed with the knowledge I have today, I would approach things differently. I would prioritize open communication between all parties, as it was non-existent at the time. I'd be proactive in seeking clarity on expectations and would not hesitate to voice my challenges. Additionally, I would suggest setting up processes and offer my help. Importantly, I would ensure that discussions about projects included both of my bosses simultaneously to maintain transparency and alignment. Would these changes have made an immediate difference? Perhaps not, but I am confident that over time, they would have fostered a more harmonious working environment. As per Leadership training, BEING CLEAR IS BEING KIND. Direct and honest communication is crucial - it not only helps personal development but also facilitates the growth of the organization. #CareerReflections #WorkplaceChallenges #ProfessionalGrowth #LeadershipTraining #CommunicationSkills #ConflictResolution #TeamAlignment #CareerDevelopment #WorkplaceCulture #OrganizationalGrowth

"Is it possible to excel in financial and managerial accounting without mastering the art of #self-management? As the diagram illustrates, both fields demand a blend of technical and soft skills for financial and managerial accounting. However, I heard this quote when I was young: "If you can't manage yourself, don't matter about the efficiency to manage others", which holds particular weight in this context. Strong ethical foundations, effective communication, adaptability, and strategic thinking are just as crucial as technical prowess. These skills not only contribute to professional success but also underpin our ability to lead and collaborate effectively. What are your thoughts? Do you agree that self-management is the cornerstone of a successful managerial career? Let's spark a discussion!" #accounting #finance #managerialaccounting #financialaccounting #selfmanagement #leadership #skills #career #professionaldevelopment

When you're good at what you do you get promoted to stop doing that thing & 'manage' - a thing you've not really done! #management is a different thing to #leadership in a #business sense, but there is a clear overlap. Most businesses that I have worked for or with over the past 25+ years do the same thing... promote the top performers to eventually be in charge of future top performers... but don't give them the tools. Many businesses say they don't have the funds for expensive training, but wouldn't buy them a book. Many say there isn't the time, or it shouldn't be necessary... but won't value the investment. At this year's management away day I am pleased to say that Wilson Browne Solicitors will once again be working with Competitive Edge Training and Consultancy when Chris Battye (FF.ISP) will be working with our senior leadership team on some core skills. We have work to do, but in recent months have welcomed Rory Berry who worked with one of our teams to bring them even closer- totally recommended by the way if you're looking to build or shore up a high performing team - Tom Cliffe who did some great groundwork with our new and aspiring managers. Learning, training, growing... it is continuous. amd an incredible investment. It has a time cost... but you can listen to an audio bookwhile travelling. I'm so passionate about this topic because I have felt the personal improvement that I have acheived in and for myself with the effort, time and investment... and I get SO excited about the future for Wilson Browne Solicitors if we maximise that and repeat it across the business!!! If you don't know where to turn for training, whether you want to join an existing course or have something bespoke do reach out to those mentioned in this post, or your local Chamber of commerce. Lulu Pacey for example at Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce for those in or near Northamptonshire will be very happy to help. They were great at the function... if you support them to be great in their management role.... 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
