I contributed to a comment about charities & the third sector as we call it: “I despair that charities not only have to do what the public & private sectors have to do, they have to rely on volunteers as their workforce AND they then have to beg for funding - if we want a third sector to do what is needed then for gods sake give them the funding to be sustainable in a proper planned way - no other public or private organisation can do what they do with so little resource & planning” For further clarification I spent much of my working life in the third sector working for charities, managing volunteers, bringing change to organisations who rely on hundreds of volunteers, so I dont see the third sector as "different" to organisations in the other sectors. Further we have to accept that treatment and support for individuals going through mental or health wellbeing more than often have to rely on charities, so to me I see Leadership, Supplier, customer, employee relationships and COMMUNITY as my contribution to inclusivity. What do you think?

Volunteer-led, or volunteer-run? Although charities rely on volunteers, they usually need a mixture of both employees and volunteers to run. Find out why in the fifth myth from ICAEW and how things could look as a professional and corporate volunteer. #Myths #Volunteering #Charities

Is your #socialenterprise experiencing issues with the Charities Regulator? It has come to our attention that several of our members are encountering difficulties with the Charities Regulator. Issues include delays in securing charity status, refusal of charity status, challenges accessing help desk support and more. These issues not only impact your operations but also your ability to secure necessary funding and support. To better understand the extent of these challenges and to effectively advocate on your behalf, we are conducting a short survey to collect your experiences and feedback regarding the Charities Regulator. https://lnkd.in/emsh6FPP Your insights are invaluable to us and will inform our next steps, including discussions with government and other relevant bodies. Leading on from a post about working together for more connected, cohesive support services cross Government/Councils/Charities, I'm particularly interested in understanding how these organisations perceive each other and if there are any feelings of apathy or resentment. Of course, as a Charity Founder, I have my feelings on funding and where funding ends up, but I won't let it get in the way of building relationships across Government, Councils, and other Charities. We are in it together, and I have met some amazing people who work in Government and Local Authorities. I truly understand that some other sources of apathy might be present from such areas as: * Bureaucracy * Misaligned priorities * Lack of communication * Resource constraints If you work in a local authority, government-funded organisation, or government department, have you ever felt that your services are not valued or appreciated? If you run a charity or community organisation, have you experienced frustration or resentment towards local authorities or government-funded organisations? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences. #publicservices #charity #localgovernment #government #apathy #resentment"

“What do I need to know about moving into the charity sector?” Recently I’ve been asked for advice from candidates looking to transition into the Charity sector, These are my top tips: 1. Passion for the cause: Look for a charity whose values and purpose align strongly with yours, match your interests and/ or lived experience. 2. Adaptability and flexibility: Charities operate with limited resources and face significant challenges. Having a flexible approach, and a willingness to adapt can help you to navigate the charity sector. Be prepared to learn, welcome new ideas and ways of working, share your knowledge, and keep an open mind. 3. Empathy and compassion: Depending on the charity’s purpose you may meet and be involved with vulnerable people (beneficiaries and their families, donors, and volunteers) on a day-to-day basis. Empathy and compassion towards others could help build relationships and make a positive impact. 4. Collaboration and teamwork: Often you will work closely with a diverse group of stakeholders, other team members, volunteers, donors, and community partners. Strong collaboration and teamwork skills are key, not just in the early days but for future success.[ Have you found this useful?

🤔 Facing challenges in recruiting and retaining talent for your charity? 🤔 Brexit, the pandemic, and an ageing population have created a perfect storm, limiting charities' ability to meet rising demand. According to Pro Bono Economics' Breaching The Dam report, 36% of charities struggle to recruit, leading to service cuts for 41%. Large and medium-sized charities, as well as a third of small charities, expect to fall short in meeting demand. It's not just about paid staff; volunteer recruitment, retention, and wellbeing pose significant challenges. 40% of organisations fell short of objectives due to insufficient volunteers last year. This trend mirrors a broader decline in volunteering over the past decade. 📉 🚀 How can you attract and retain the right people to power your charity's mission? 🚀 You can explore insights in the carousel below. 👇 #CharityChallenges #TalentRetention #VolunteerRecruitment #RecruitmentandRetention #CharityRecruitment
