This is absolutely spot on! I’ve been contacting our local authority to explain what Heol Chwarae Rol - Role Play Lane can offer the communities and families in need. We have the perfect facilities to run a range of specialist services but we need support from the Bigwigs! (Am I allowed to say that - probably not, but I did so - oops!) A couple of months ago I went to an educational conference, and although I loved the inspirational speakers, I came out feeling deflated. Why? Because the services that we already do at the centre, are now being given to the council or the NHS to deliver to the community for free and are rolling it out into RCT now. We can’t compete with that unless we are completely funded. Which if anyone who applies for grants know, isnt the case with most grants (e.g they don’t pay for utility bills etc), so how can we possibly do things for free? The council and NHS staff already get a decent wage, whilst we are working (our asses off!) for minimum wage providing an exceptional service already, but one which obviously does come to a small cost to our beneficiaries. What we need is for the public service, public bodies and businesses to collaborate with us and other community groups and Not for Profits organisations. We should all help each other, instead of replicating services. This will make our services better, will have more impact and provide the sustainability that all sectors and beneficiaries need.

Great suggestions from Paul Stepczak to help ensure those charities who are currently the sandbags holding up the walls of public service don’t disappear We are filling the gaps and are happy to do so, but we need support Even sharing a post to your community is useful but here are Paul’s suggestions: ✨If you’re a member of the public, donate and/or volunteer. ✨If you’re a public service department, procure your services from social enterprises and community groups where possible. ✨If you’re a private business, sponsor or support a community group with finance or skills. ✨If you're an education institution, educate your students with a social purpose. ✨If you're a public body of significant size, invest in a community development workforce.
