The first recorded trade fair - 1150 AD No prizes for guessing that the first documented trade fair took place in Frankfurt, and 800 years later, the city remains one of the most popular destinations for trade fairs in the world. These early trade fairs focused on agricultural products and wine, which, I like to think, have now evolved into the many food & wine markets of europe. Disclaimer: although this may be the first officially documented trade fair, bazzars and barter markets have existed throughout all of history to facilitate trade, for example along the silk/ spice route. Locally-anchored, they employ millions of people and offer excellent products and expertise. Their business model is key to their success, supporting their entrepreneurial spirit, their autonomy and the uniqueness of each of their stores. Dedicated to serving them, their central cooperative structure, which they jointly own and control, enables them to unify their forces and flourish as a group as well as individually. “Celebrating Scotland’s Iconic Scotch Whisky Industry” was the subject of The Scottish Government business at Parliament yesterday afternoon 🥃 Worth a listen with a dram, Parliament welcomed the reported £7.1 billion each year that is contributed in added value to the UK economy by the Scotch whisky industry through the production of high-quality and internationally successful brands, which are sold to 180 markets around the world; noting that 75% of the Scotch whisky industry's gross value added (GVA) is generated in Scotland, supporting 41,000 jobs and a further 25,000 across the UK; welcoming the over £2 billion of investments that have reportedly been made by the industry over the last five years; recognising that the Scotch whisky industry plays a crucial role in Scotland’s ambition to grow its exports, in attracting visitors from overseas to its world-leading visitor experiences, and in decarbonising operations in order to achieve net zero by 2045, and wished everyone involved in Scotland’s iconic Scotch whisky industry continued success as, it considers, they continue to play an integral role in communities throughout Scotland. https://lnkd.in/evYAkb8n

The UK Intellectual Property Office's weekly trade mark journal provides for interesting insights into what companies intend to offer in the near future. In the most recent publication, we came across Britvic plc's UK trade mark applications for the marks of "MANGO SUNSHINE", "BEET BALANCE", "TURMERIC RECOVERY" and "TANGO’D". Sounds like some new drinks are coming to market. Maybe in the form of health shots, MOJU style? Good to see James Beeson also covering this in The Grocer earlier today.
