♻ Yesterday evening, Lykke Advice attended the event "Circular Economy: Where does the EU Stand?", hosted by Thon Hotels, in Brussels. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆❓ Circular economy is a model of production that promotes resource efficiency and waste reduction. It involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials and products, thereby extending their lifecycle as long as possible. By doing so, it poses itself as an alternative to the linear economic model, which is, by contrast, based on a take-make-consume-dispose pattern. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀❓ The key message from the event was that circular economy should not be viewed solely as an environmental goal, but also as a fundamental tool for enhancing the EU's competitiveness and strategic autonomy. Indeed, the transition to a circular economy presents a multitude of benefits: ☘ It protects the environment by limiting biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas emissions; 💎 It decreases the EU's reliance on external sources of raw materials; 💡 It stimulates innovation, thereby boosting economic growth and employment. 𝗜𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 ❓ 📩 If you are an SME operating in the field of circular economy, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to provide support for your activities at the EU level! #EU #PublicAffairs #CircularEconomy #SMEs

A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE Ever wondered how to turn sustainability into your business's competitive advantage? It's time to dive into the world of circularity and unlock a world of opportunities for innovation and sustainability. Circular economy principles offer a dynamic framework for reimagining the way we produce, consume, and dispose of goods. By shifting from the traditional linear 'take-make-dispose' model to one that prioritises regeneration and resource efficiency, entrepreneurs can not only reduce waste but also create new revenue streams and enhance brand reputation. Here are a few insights on how you can embrace circularity in your entrepreneurial journey: ✅Design for durability and longevity: Create products that stand the test of time, focusing on quality and repairability rather than planned obsolescence. ✅Embrace the power of collaboration: Partner with other businesses, suppliers, and stakeholders to optimise resource utilisation and close the loop on materials. ✅Adopt innovative business models: Explore options like product-as-a-service, leasing, and sharing platforms to maximise product lifespan and minimise waste generation. ✅Prioritise waste reduction and recycling: Integrate sustainable practices into your supply chain and operations, aiming for zero waste wherever possible. ✅Educate and engage your customers: Raise awareness about the importance of circularity and empower your audience to make eco-conscious choices. Mary Njue., through participation in the project CEASE bootcamp in Nairobi, has gleaned invaluable insights into infusing circular economy principles into operations. Focused on borehole system maintenance, Epicenter Africa is poised to amplify its environmental and economic sustainability, delivering innovative solutions to communities in need. Embracing circularity isn't just about profitability, it's about creating lasting positive impact for both society and the planet. #GrowthAfrica #CircularEconomy #SustainabilitySuccess #Circularity #Environment #Sustainability

🌍 We’re at a crucial moment: only 7.2% of materials are recycled in our linear economy, straining resources and worsening #EnvironmentalChallenges. As #COP29 approaches, global leaders will emphasize the urgent need for a circular economy that supports a net-zero future. To address stakeholder needs, UNDP in Europe and Central Asia, in collaboration with the Circular Innovation Lab ApS, is organizing the Waste to Wealth Event in Istanbul. This gathering will unite key players to explore #InnovativeSolutions for #PlasticWaste and foster inclusive policies. 📢 Tune in as we explore how strategic partnerships can create new value and significantly reduce plastic waste, paving the way for a sustainable, circular future. #CircularEconomy #BeatPlasticPollution #WasteToWealth #ClimateAction

Exciting to see this development in Australia’s commitment to fostering a circular economy. Of note: 🧐 – Even at 4.6% circular, Australia has a more circular economy than Norway, Ireland and Finland and through this framework seeks to double its circularity by 2035. 💰 - Australian companies spend $1.4bn throwing away $26.5bn worth of material to landfill every year. Even with recycling, we see a lot of offcuts of new construction materials go in the bin. We can do better to put these materials to work. 📣 Priorities expected to support decarbonisation – Reuse of buildings! Products-as-a-Service. 🏢 Built Environment focus – a priority on refurbishing and adaptive reuse, use of circular materials and fitouts (e.g. leased materials in fitouts), design for disassembly. I recently spoke about Circularity at Four Levels at the Circularity 2024 conference. I focussed on; 🧱 Products (such as Noveco Surfaces – a circular alternative to engineered stone) 🪟 Designed for disassembly components (such as XFrame or Assemble Studio partitions) 🏫 Full buildings that are designed for disassembly and reassembly; because who knows what the future holds? 🏛️ Adaptive re-use of existing un or under-utilised buildings. First use what is there. Great to see the leadership of Frasers Property Limited and the hard work of builder Hacer Group called out in the case study on Burwood Brickworks. I’d like to specifically honour the leadership of Rory Martin, Paolo Bevilacqua and Stephen Choi, though there were countless others involved. We need to shout about regenerative projects – they are the future. Talk to Built. about how we can drive circularity into your next fitout, refurbishment or building. WOW! What an incredible way to close the year—the release of the Australian Circular Economy Framework! It’s been an absolute privilege to review this framework and provide recommendations, many of which have been incorporated. Back in 2017, when I co-founded The Circular Experiment (now Coreo), I might not have believed if you’d asked me whether Australia would have a national circular economy framework! This framework introduces a new national ambition: Double Australia’s circularity by 2035. Supporting targets: -Shrink our per capita material footprint by 10%. -Lift our material productivity by 30%. -Safely recover 80% of our resources. Sector priorities focus on areas where action is needed most and where Australia has unique advantages: -Industry -The built environment -Agriculture and food -Resources Now, the real work begins—turning this framework into action—which is where we specialise. It’s inspiring to see these ambitious goals set and even more exciting to help make them a reality. Onwards and upwards!
