🌍Last week, the World Economic Forum (WEF) released its Global Risks Report 2024, which provides insights into the risks that we face today and in the future. ⛈️The report highlights the top risks in the next 2 and 10 years, with extreme weather, natural resource shortages, and pollution being among the top 10 risks. It is important however to read the report from the perspective of ‘taking care’ rather than ‘causing scare. ♻️ Waste-to-Energy technology can help reduce these risks in several ways: 1. It can reduce methane emissions from landfills, which contribute to extreme weather events. 2. When combined with carbon capture, Waste-to-Energy can deliver negative CO2 emissions, helping to fight against climate change. 3. By enabling the partial recycling of non-recyclable waste, Waste-to-Energy is a vital partner to recycling and helps to reuse materials instead of depleting natural resources. 4. By diverting non-recyclable waste from landfills, waste-to-energy stops water, soil, and air pollution linked to landfilling. 💚 By adopting Waste-to-Energy technology, we can help reduce the risks highlighted in the Global Risks Report 2024 and create a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations. https://wllw.co/EiJHmFraj #wastetoenergy #wastemanagement #circulareconomy #Keppelseghers

Promoting a positive approach to PR and #communications through experience! Creating opportunity for business through creative thinking #manufacturing #sustainability #renewables #plastics
Understanding Scope 1,2 and 3 can be at times a bit of a muddle! I have discussed with a wide group of people covering many industries the need for change. Often met with the response; “ If we make changes how can we achieve the goals in time and how will it impact our bottom line?” The answer to that is more of an ethical one than a financial, and that is the wall many of us are coming up against. Is everything always down to money or is investment in ethical practices and talking about them through honest #PR #communications and #marketing the answer? I stand by the fact that #ESG and #sustainability are important for any business, shareholders, potential investors and even those looking to buy will look at your footprint, your social responsibility and those investing in the future. If you are not looking forward, are not being honest and are not considering change, things will not be easy in the future, those making changes now I believe will have a future. #manufacturingindustry #sustainable #sustainablepr #sustainableprojects #footprint
5 Climate Facts Everyone Should Know About GHG Emissions 1. Energy Reigns Supreme: A whopping 76% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the energy sector! Power plants, transportation, and industries guzzling fossil fuels are the prime culprits. Investing in renewables and building energy-efficient buildings are crucial steps towards a cleaner future. 2. Food Matters (A Lot!): Did you know the food system generates 11% of global emissions? Agriculture, livestock, and deforestation all play a role. Reducing food waste, opting for sustainable farming practices, and embracing plant-based meals are smart choices for both your health and the planet. 3. Not All Emissions Are Created Equal: While CO2 is the headline star, methane from livestock and nitrous oxide from fertilizers pack a much bigger punch per molecule. Addressing these sources can yield significant climate benefits with targeted action. 4. Inequality Fuels the Flames: Developed countries historically emitted the most, and still contribute disproportionately. However, developing nations are now facing the brunt of climate impacts. Ensuring a just transition towards a low-carbon future requires global cooperation and support for vulnerable communities. 5. We're Not Powerless: Every action counts! From using public transport to switching to green energy providers, individual choices ripple out. And advocating for climate-friendly policies can make a systemic difference. Remember, collective action is the most powerful tool in our arsenal. #ClimateCrisis #ClimateAction #GreenhouseGases #EmissionsReduction #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFood #ClimateJustice #IndividualAction #PolicyChange #Sustainability #CleanTech #ClimateTech #CorporateSocialResponsibility #SustainableSupplyChains #ClimateResilience #FutureOfWork Follow me (Harshal) for exciting #ESG and #Zerocarbon trivia. #CCUS - Swear word 🤬 or Savior? 🤺 It makes me a little aggro at times with a number shortcomings and shortsightedness coupled to perceived benefits. The basics.... Think of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) as a three-step process to tackle CO2 emissions. First, it captures CO2 before it's released into the atmosphere, like trapping it in a net. Then, instead of letting it go, we either store it safely underground, and hide it away, or find useful ways to recycle it into products we use every day. See Colorful picture - answer was in the name you may say. CO2 drives the greenhouse effect, leading to climate change - eg. rising global temperatures/melting ice caps/extreme weather events, and disruptions to ecosystems and biodiversity. CCUS is only a LITTLE part of a big problem and an even trickier set of solutions to help reduce CO2 in the air and find clever ways to put it to good use. Look! One challenge is that CCUS is expensive like trying to catch a lot of tiny, fast-moving bugs. 🐛🐛 This is an apt descriptor by the way. Another ... is the siting of a mysterious vast available land to store the buried treasure/captured CO2 safely underground without causing any harm. The limited efficiency of CO2 Conversion from tons captured is even more ...interesting. 😵💫 Also, figuring out how to use the captured CO2 in useful products or processes can be tricky, like trying to turn a puzzle piece into something else entirely. As part of hybrid solution there may be value in its role in stabilizing climate change (note I didn't say reduction) by supporting the development of sustainable industries in goods and energy sectors and support #energytransition. If/when we target equitable global solutions then viable economic opportunity may be realized driving investment and growth, Should I write the technical article? What are your unfiltered thoughts? #Carboncapture #greenwashing #climatechange #riskmanagement #CO2

H2O Talking about greenhouse gas emissions or diversity in conjunction with sustainability has become politicized and emotional. It might be possible to have a dispassionate discussion about water. For the reasons discussed below, investors expect a tightening of the clean water market (independently from any global warming.) As a result, ‘water’ has become one of the biggest themes in sustainable finance and beyond, supported by the UN’s Sustainability Development Goal #6. Utilities and companies offering solutions in water treatment or efficiency have been big beneficiaries of this trend, especially as these so-called ‘water stocks’ are scarce. Logically, it will not take long before investors who expect water shortages and invest in companies offering water risk-mitigating solutions ask all companies about their direct and indirect clean water dependency. Indeed, they can divert capital to firms actively dealing with water risk to ensure business continuity (or reduce their exposure to the companies that do not). It is a supply-chain play for investors who can invest not only in water stocks, but also in their best customers. As illustrated in the table below, water risk impacts industries in their direct operations (apparel, luxury goods, natural resources extraction, pharma), along the supply chain (food and beverage), or at the product use level (plastic containers, chemicals). Overall, McKinsey estimates that two-thirds of businesses have substantial water-related risks. Taking a step back, water is a big play for several reasons.
