What if low-income families were supported to make holistic decisions about their lives and linked to various resources, including social capital? What if there was a model that integrated housing, education, employment, family stability, physical health, mental health, etc., and families identified their goals, then self-directed plans to accomplish them? The Platform of Hope DC is one community-based organization committed to this mission and they are looking for their next executive director. They don't just want qualified applicants, they want qualified applicants who understand this: The Platform of Hope strives to be an anti-racist organization and uphold our founding goals to confront systems of inequity, inaccessibility and exclusion. If this is you, please go to https://lnkd.in/e5aUsr_p to learn more.

Leveling up people around us, easier said than done. You might be the smartest engineer in the room, smartest product manager, or the smartest financial specialist, yet, that is not enough to level up people around you. It requires a cumulative of understanding people psychology and communication/learning styles, understanding what is a truly servant leader and a leader by example, having an open and trust based culture, and the ability to negotiate and convince your management or investors in the value of what you are doing and get their buy-in to allocate the needed resources. This journey by it self would be -mostly- a new adventure and a learning path for yourself, just if you are committed and truly passionate about making change.
Great post by Kelsey Hightower. If we all leave every room we are the smartest in. We will leave so many rooms with a lot of potential. Those we don’t call smartest, have a lot of disadvantaged, disenfranchised, and out of network people that do not “look” smart, yet are full of potential. Let’s always level up people around us, whilst also leveling down people who don’t deserve their positions.

Experience letters are important documents that reflect an employee's tenure and contributions within an organisation. They play a crucial role in verifying employment history, aiding in career progression, and building trust with future employers. These letters provide a comprehensive overview of an employee's roles, responsibilities, and achievements, serving as proof of their professional journey. Crafting these letters with accuracy and transparency is essential for maintaining integrity and credibility. Any discrepancies or omissions can lead to misunderstandings or mistrust, impacting both the employee's and the company's reputation. Sometimes, employees take a sabbatical and return to the same organization after a few months. In such cases, should the experience letter for these employees mention the break in service? Would there be any risk to the employer if this break is not indicated in the letter? Throughout my blindness journey I hit many bumps in the road, some of which were more difficult than others. The slow progression of visual acuity and peripheral vision loss was not as hard as dealing with the voices in my head. I can remember, like it was yesterday. I was 32 and questioning my purpose in life. I was walking home from the bus stop; I had a backpack full of college textbooks and it was 110 degrees outside. I had done that mile long walk hundreds of times before, but that day all I could hear was the voice telling me this was my future. Walking in the heat, imagining every person passing me was whispering words of gratitude that they weren’t in my shoes. Fortunately for me, I had the support of my wife and family. They helped me see the good in this situation rather than the negative. I was going to college to improve my skills sets in order to compete in the job market, I had a family that loved me regardless and my future was what I chose to make of it. Like my family, the AbilityOne Program and Arizona Industries For The Blind provided the opportunity for me to change my negative outlook on employment into a positive and rewarding experience. I have built confidence within myself, grown my professional career and now I walk down that same street with my guide dog at my side and my head held high. Let’s change the perception of blindness together. Contact your Legislator in Washington D.C., tell them you support a mandatory 1% AbilityOne Program utilization goal for the Department of Defense. #awareness #DisabilityEmployment #careers #ChampionEmploymentGrowth #inclusion #advocacy #blindness #AbilityOne
