I recently listened to one of the most eye-opening, surprising, and informative podcasts of my life featuring Casey Means, MD and Calley Means on the Tucker Carlson Podcast. In this episode, they delve into the stark realities of our current system—how lobbying efforts shape the pharmaceutical and food industries, and the grim truths about the medical system in the United States. The conversation exposes what is happening behind the scenes and how it affects public health. I highly recommend giving this podcast a listen. Here are a few key points highlighted in the discussion: - Autism rates in kids are 1 in 36 nationally, compared to 1 in 1500 in the not-so-distant past. -74% of American adults are overweight or obese. - Close to 50% of children are overweight or obese. - Infertility is increasing by 1% per year. - Sperm counts are decreasing by 1% per year since the 1970s. - Young adult cancers are up 79%. - 1 in 8 women over the age of 40 have had breast cancer. These all stem from two things… the TOXIC FOOD AND LIFESTYLE HABITS that many Americans live by on a day to day basis.

🚨 New episode alert! On this week’s episode of the pod, Jess is joined by Dr. Karen Tang (OB/GYN and science communicator) to debunk common women’s health myths and misconceptions. In honor of Endometriosis Month, the two docs start there and discuss what endometriosis is and isn’t, and how it’s diagnosed and managed. Next, they chat about PCOS and discuss the lack of evidence supporting special diets purported to cure it. The conversation shifts to bacterial vaginosis (and BV trends on TikTok that— spoiler alert— are not evidence-based), HPV, birth control, and more. Great episode of Unbiased Science with a focus on women's health myths. I am knee-deep in these in my work on reproductive health misinformation for Critica and there's a lot to unpack. Appreciate Unbiased Science's careful, evidence-based approach as always!

There’s a massive gap in women’s healthcare, particularly around pelvic health. I listened to the Femtech Health Podcast (highly recommend!) for the first time this morning while taking my walk. Their episode on pelvic and hormone health was eye-opening.  Dr. Alexandra Dubinskaya, a urogynecologist, explained how the specialties of ob-gyn and urology often miss crucial aspects of women’s pelvic and hormone health. ♀ Too often women silently suffer from health challenges that have solutions. Whether it’s postpartum challenges or sexual health, sometimes we don’t speak up because we’re embarrassed, ashamed, or simply aren’t aware it’s something we can address with our provider. I learned so much in that one episode and look forward to listening to more. It’s a fantastic resource empowering women with health knowledge they can use to advocate for themselves. 🎙 If you’re interested in listening to the episode, it’s titled “Understanding the Importance of Hormonal Health in Women."
