31 July…my last day on active duty in the Air Force (albeit on terminal leave). Much remains to be done. The Air Force must determine how best to present forces to combat commanders; this effort is underway. The Air Force must innovate to ensure it gains and maintains Air Superiority (Air Dominance is unlikely)…this requires an Airpower revolution. Budgets are unyielding…it’s time to think. The Air Force needs to focus on lethality, not AFI36-2903. The Air Force Reserve needs to develop a strategy which defines where they are operational and where they are strategic depth; and then ensure Combatant Commanders understand use of Reserve Forces. The Air National Guard needs to cease “land grabs” and base it’s force structure and missions on supporting the Regular Air Force (while still maintaining the capability to meet state requirements). It’s urgent…it’s past time. No one is going to tell you to do it. You just need to get after it. FRA Launches 2024 Survey on Military and Veterans Benefits As part of its mission to convey enlisted concerns to Capitol Hill, the FRA is conducting an online survey to determine the most crucial military and veteran benefits for active duty and Reserve personnel, retirees, veterans, and their families. The brief survey invites current and former members of the uniformed services, as well as their spouses, to rate various benefits and quality-of-life programs linked to their service to our nation. The FRA urges all current and former military personnel and their spouses to share opinions on the programs they value most. Survey responses and participant comments offer the legislative team vital reference information for Congressional testimony and one-on-one meetings with lawmakers and their staff. Survey results are shared with elected officials on Capitol Hill, key committee staff, and leaders within the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the enlisted sea service perspective. Sec 596 of the Senate Armed Services Committee requires the creation of the "Commission on Quality of Life for the All-Volunteer Armed Force." The Commission's primary charge is to "(A) Establish a framework for making an objective, metrics-informed assessment of quality of life for members of the Armed Forces and civilian employees across the Department of Defense. Such framework shall include factors related to compensation, morale, military families, military and civilian spouse employment, benefits, occupational health and safety, living conditions, and any other factors that the Commission deems appropriate."
