The influence of foreign companies producing election-related technologies has an impact on the sovereignty of electoral management bodies. “In some cases, a country may find itself locked into a particular technology solution and only able to continue using its digital systems by maintaining a commercial relationship with the particular vendor that provided them. The worst manifestation might arguably be that a country, or more specifically, the election management body, cannot access its own election data at all for various reasons, such as the vendor no longer being in business or because the individual or team who developed the software is no longer available.” – Alt. Advisory Africa is struggling to deploy the most basic biometric equipment for election. With the advancement of AI, how and in what ways can AI be leveraged in an environment struggling with technological infrastructure? How do we create equity when 19% of Africa has easy access to technology? The role of AI in Nigeria's elections: Excited to share my recent interview on TVC News, where I discussed the pressing topic. In this conversation, I addressed the shenanigans plaguing our electoral processes and proposed a game-changing solution: integrating an AI Chatbot to interact directly with INEC (the Independent National Electoral Commission). While I understand concerns about data breaches, I emphasized that embracing technology is crucial for our electoral future. Yes, technology alone won't solve all our challenges, but collaboration among all stakeholders is essential for meaningful change. Let’s shift the narrative away from solely blaming the election umpire - it's time for all of us to take responsibility for the integrity of our elections.
