Today we welcomed Rosie Wrighting newly elected Labour MP for Kettering. We were pleased to discuss our new hospital plans and hopes for the future development of our site, including our new energy centre. Ms. Wrighting spent time with colleagues from our Emergency Department and touring the current facilities. The visit was rounded off with a tour of our new Urology centre. Ms. Wrighting met the team and found out more about how we improve patient experience with a streamlined service. This innovation minimises the number of patient appointments, with a new one-stop pathway. It is achieved by putting specialist colleagues and testing facilities all under one roof; meaning patients have a variety of key tests and see a consultant all on the same day. We would like to thank Rose Wrighting for visiting our hospital.

Vice President - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) at Zimmer Biomet (ZB) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Over 3 years ago, we launched a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) strategy at Zimmer Biomet focused on Team Members, Patients, Communities, and Partners. In our Patient pillar, we called out a need to “close health disparities in diverse populations” and began building upon Zimmer Biomet’s long-standing commitment to health equity through its support of Movement is Life™ and the substantial investments of the Zimmer Biomet Foundation in key partnerships like the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and Nth Dimensions to help build a more diverse pipeline in the specialty of orthopaedic medicine who could champion the work of health equity and understand the role social determinants of health (SDOH’s) play in delivering positive healthcare outcomes in diverse communities. Last year, we deepened our commitment to health equity with the establishment of a new team leading this work at Zimmer Biomet under a platform called Community Centered Care (C3). C3 seeks to increase the access of underserved communities to quality care by working to align the interests and incentives of surgeons, hospitals, and payors to support those efforts. The creation of C3 accelerates the commitments we made in our DEI strategy to patients, and highlights a personal passion of our CEO, Ivan Tornos, to making a meaningful and lasting impact on health equity. Please check out this article from a recent piece in USA Today highlighting our commitment to this critically important work at Zimmer Biomet. https://lnkd.in/gHqPFxSP

The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation recently gave $530,000 to Brightshores Health System. A portion of this gift will help support the work of the Office of Reseach and Innovation and and their work on projects that will impact our communities. Here are just a few of the exciting projects happening: There are 2 new clinical trials being initiated with Dr. Marcus Newton. These studies are looking at a lung disease (Pulmonary Fibrosis), and testing a new drug and its ability to help these patients. This is a very serious disease with limited treatment options. This is an exciting opportunity for our local patients to trial a new drug to help them, without having to travel several hours to an urban center! A very specific type of CT scanner image was required, and the scanner in Owen Sound hospital did not meet the technical specification requirements, so we were thrilled that the new CT Scanner in Saugeen Shores did and allowed Brightshores to be eligible for this study. Dr. Rami Shasha, Brightshores Ophthalmologist is performing 2 studies that are examining a new technique for performing cataract surgery. He has been invited to present these 2 studies at a major conference in Boston in April 2024! Brightshores is engaging in a number of industry partners to explore options of adopting new technologies to help provide care to patients in rural communities. Some of these technologies allow remote or mobile assessments and monitoring of patients. The focus is to find technologies that can meaningfully provide tools to help our workers, and tools to help care for our patients. Some innovation projects are exploring new ways of training healthcare workers. Dr. Ali Rassouli and Dr. Sunil Mehta are exploring the potential of training specialized surgical skills to emergency physicians in rural locations. This training involves practicing techniques on cadavers (donated bodies from an University Anatomy Lab). Sometimes traumas occur in remote and rural regions where there are limited access to resources or specialists, and not enough time for transfer. Providing special training to these doctors will enhance skill and confidence, and best of all: save lives! Hello LinkedIn family! We are excited to share our latest contribution to knowledge with you. This study focused on the impact of chronic wounds on quality of life. Continuing with the trend of young age of affectation (as captured in our previous study on incidence and prevalence of chronic wounds), this study found that patients with chronic wounds have poor quality of life. The significant predictors of poor quality of life were wound pain of moderate/severe intensity, wound location in the leg, and the non-use of analgesic in the presence of wound pain. It is important for policy makers to improve assess to healthcare (to reduce wound chronicity), reduce the burden of trauma (as post traumatic wounds are the commonest cause of chronic wounds in our environment-see our study on incidence), and improve funding for care of patients with chronic wounds. You can read more on this study in the Journal of West African College of Surgeons via the link below

An important article was just published in The Journal of Orthopaedic Experience & Innovation. According to the authors, "The findings of our study conflict with previous literature, which has demonstrated increased postoperative complications and readmission rates of racial minorities...Our study did not show increases in postoperative complications and readmission rates among minority patients in a single healthcare system network suggesting that perhaps access to healthcare is the biggest contributor to disparities in outcomes for racial minorities. Access to healthcare is a factor more significantly impacting racial minorities and contributes to negative outcomes and increased disparities in health. Read and Reshare! https://lnkd.in/ejfqmnYy

I make healthcare better. Physician-entrepreneur building happy healthcare teams and innovative care models to deliver exceptional patient care in areas of need. CEO Pazona MD Urology and VirtuCare
I was having a fantastic discussion over coffee this morning with Enam Haque about the patient experience in healthcare. It's rare to . . . find a non-clinician in healthcare who understands that importance of looking at the healthcare system in its entirety rather than developing a business as a silo (fixes one problem, but creates new ones). The core of healthcare is the patient-physician relationship. We forget that the whole industry comes tumbling down the day this relationship and interaction does not occur. Pharmaceutical, insurance, IT, hospital, ancillary services, med device companies etc don't exist without a doctor seeing a patient or overseeing other providers. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of wonderful innovation in healthcare that excites me on a daily basis. But I'm more excited about curating thought leaders with a mission to improve the experience of patients and physicians. It's not sexy but it's fundamental.. I'm excited for the day where we have a physician led ecosystem that collaborates with other mission-led visionaries to create an exceptional end-to-end patient and physician experience. On the eve of celebrating and remembering Martin Luther King Jr., one can dream. #healthcareinnovation #patientsfirst #physicianburnout #collaboration #nashvillebusiness #urology

We are thrilled to see more and more hospitals adopting #MAPLe to provide accurate diagnoses & effective treatments for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. This trend underscores the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, where close collaboration between #urologists, #gynecologists, #gastroenterologists, and pelvic physiotherapists is crucial—both pre- and post-surgery. Pelvic floor dysfunction is a condition that affects many lives, often with serious implications for a patient's physical and emotional well-being. Recent Australian research (Continence Foundation of Australia) highlights just how widespread and impactful incontinence can be: 𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.
