#DeliveryExcellenceChallenge - Knowledge Test The Delivery Excellence Challenge kicks off today, with 24 drivers proudly representing their countries! We begin with the Knowledge Test, assessing their understanding of delivery practices and safety protocols. Let's see how their expertise shines!

Rest Breaks: Safety or Profit? As a female truck driver, I'm deeply concerned about the potential for higher costs to be used as an argument. While I understand route planning and scheduling might be more complex with stricter breaks, prioritizing profit by carriers and brokers over driver well-being is unacceptable and puts everyone on the road at risk. Unfortunately, I've seen firsthand how unethical carriers and brokers exploit the system by pressuring drivers to skip breaks, falsify logs, and take unsafe runs, often targeting drivers who may be unfamiliar with all regulations. This predatory behavior is a major concern and requires a multi-pronged approach. Here's how we can move forward: 1. Stronger Enforcement: * The FMCSA needs to increase enforcement against carriers and brokers who violate regulations. * Penalties for non-compliance should be substantial enough to deter repeat offenses. * Penalties should deter repeat offenses and focus enforcement efforts on carriers and brokers who violate existing regulations, while protecting drivers from retaliation or unfair consequences for adhering to safety protocols. 2. Educational Resources: * Greater educational resources are needed to empower drivers with the knowledge of their rights and available support systems. * This includes training materials readily available in multiple languages to ensure all drivers are informed, regardless of their background or native language. 3. Industry Collaboration: * The industry needs to collaborate to develop transparent and accountable scheduling practices that: * Prioritize driver well-being and adhere to mandated breaks. * Provide realistic timeframes for deliveries that factor in rest breaks. * Establish clear communication channels for drivers to report concerns or request adjustments without fear of retaliation. By addressing the root causes of non-compliance, including predatory behavior and knowledge gaps, we can create a safer environment for everyone on the road. Change is in the air - The American FMCSA ( Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) Considers Commercial Driver Licence Streamlining According to the agency, the proposed regulation may affect states, third-party knowledge examiners, CDL applicants, CMV drivers, and motor carriers. Potential adjustments include: A proposal to allow CDL applicants to take a CDL skills test in a state other than their home state; allow a commercial learner permit holder who has passed the CDL skills test to operate a commercial motor vehicle on public roads without a qualified CDL holder in the passenger seat; and eliminate the requirement that an applicant wait at least 14 days after receiving the CLP to take the CDL skills test. Remove the requirement that an applicant have completed training in the testing state before taking the CDL skills test in that state. Federal regulations now allow a state to conduct the CDL skills test to an applicant residing in another state, as long as the individual has received training in the state where the skills test will be administered. Such test results must be sent electronically from the testing state to the licencing state in a timely, efficient, and secure way. States that authorise third-party knowledge examiners must apply the same training, certification, and record-check criteria as state knowledge examiners. Furthermore, governments would be forced to include third-party knowledge examiners in the scope of auditing and monitoring rules that currently solely apply to third-party skills examiners. As of February 3, 2022, states may allow the employment of third-party knowledge examiners as long as they follow CDL knowledge test standards and regulations.
