Plans have been revealed that show proposals to transform the building that currently houses Swansea’s McDonalds at Castle Square. The proposals by local development group Kartay involve remodelling the empty third and fourth floors of the five-story building and building a five-story extension. Developer say the proposed refurbishment will provide 29 apartments to the upper floors, including 16 one-bedroom flats and 13 two-bedroom flats. https://lnkd.in/gik_JK6e #swansea #citycentre 

The Brooklyn Marine Terminal is slated for major renovations, including upgrades to its port and public waterfront access... and potentially the construction of thousands of apartments on the terminal. In THE CITY (newsroom)'s latest article, the project's task force members expressed their concerns of building houses on the site. "Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. You’re not going to pull out housing or commercial development to create industrial land" says Waterfront Alliance's own President and CEO Cortney Koenig Worrall. As the deadline for project renovations rapidly approaches, the task force is left with a difficult decision on how to balance the demand for housing and a fully functional, sustainable port. On Thursday (today), the Planning Authority (PA) approved plans for a 5-star hotel and 105 residential units to replace parts of Fort Chambray, Gozo. The proposal, which had already been recommended for approval by the Directorate of Planning, was approved with two votes against and five in favour. The approval greenlights the development of 105 residential units, based on land spanning 14,514sqm and a five-storey five-star hotel that accommodates 64 rooms and 50 apartments. The project was put forward by developer Michael Caruana on behalf of Fort Chambray Ltd. Plans indicate that the barracks’ screen and flanks will be relocated to an area closer to the Knights’ barracks while three additional floors will be built over a new building. It will include the re-assembled barrack’s façade. Planning Board Chairman Emmanuel Camilleri remarked that, in 2012, an outline permit was issued allowing the demolition of the barracks and noted that the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage did not object to the project. Nonetheless, one of the Board members who voted against the plans, Romano Cassar, described the demolition of the barracks is “an act of madness.” The Gozo Regional Development Authority representative, who was the second member to vote against the project, commented that plans should have been integrated in the project. #WhosWho #Malta

Have you seen our building work to create new accessible bungalows in Moredon and Walcot? 🚧 As part of the Council’s commitment to building a better, fairer and greener Swindon, two projects are working to create properties which have accessibility and sustainability in mind, addressing a shortage of adaptable housing in Swindon. In Ashley Close in Walcot (top image), the work to build three new three-bedroom homes is nearly complete and it is expected that these properties will be available for tenants to move in to in January 2025. Meanwhile, in Ventnor Close in Moredon (bottom image), construction on eight two-bedroom homes is continuing to progress with the first timber frame now up, while the parking area is now completed.
