"Pakistan went through a very severe crisis of national disintegration in 1971 followed by a government which was otherwise very progressive but unfortunately, which did not prioritize family planning in the manner that the Ayub Khan government had. Another very crucial, damaging step that was taken in those years was to separate the department and the Ministry of Population Welfare from Health and create a new separate ministry - which on the surface, looks very good but in fact was inherently flawed." Javed Jabbar, former senator and family planning advocate, talks about the history of Pakistan's political landscape and its effects on population planning. - This video is part of a documentary series titled “Normalize the Talk” - where we explore the challenges surrounding family planning and reproductive health in Pakistan and the role of Population Services International (PSI) Pakistan in addressing those challenges.

Empowering Young Minds at Satwika Social Welfare Trust! 🌟 Satwika Social Welfare Trust (Satwika Skills Learning Studio) recently organized a seven-day course on "Relationships and Sexual Health" for 14 adolescent girls from Sivashram Orphanage Home. Our journey began with the basics of self-awareness, understanding one's body and its parts, and identifying emotions. We then delved into crucial topics like relationships, marriage as an institution, consent, and the concept of touch. Through interactive brainstorming activities and situational analyses, we explored their perspectives and observations. Reproductive health encompasses sexual health, physical health, mental health, and social well-being. Our course addressed all these aspects, including a detailed understanding of menstruation. The final day featured a quiz to assess their knowledge and understanding of the course material. The enthusiasm and engagement of these young minds were truly inspiring. At Satwika, we believe in fostering comprehensive education and empowering every individual to understand and embrace their own well-being. #SatwikaSkillsLearningStudio #Empowerment #SexualHealth #AdolescentEducation #CommunityEngagement #Wellbeing #InclusiveEducation

Successful Prevention of Child Marriages in Koraput District! The Koraput district administration has achieved a significant milestone in preventing around 65 child marriages, particularly among tribal communities, over the past year. Child marriage is prevalent in tribal communities such as Paraja, Gadaba, Bhumiya, Bhatra, Halwa, Soura, and Kondh due to traditional customs. To address this issue, grassroots-level child protection committees have been established, comprising panchayat representatives, health and social welfare department officials, and police. These committees have successfully intervened in several child marriage cases, providing counseling to the involved individuals and raising awareness about the legal consequences of child marriage. Despite ongoing efforts and surveillance, challenges persist, particularly due to instances where tribal parents conceal marriages following the elopement of their minor children. However, the issue is regularly reviewed at both block and district levels, and reports on child marriage prevention are assessed every three months to guide future actions. The proactive measures taken by the administration have yielded tangible results in preventing child marriages, showcasing a commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and upholding legal provisions. The commitment to addressing this issue is unwavering, and the administration remains vigilant in its efforts to eradicate child marriages, especially within remote tribal areas. Join us in Celebrating this Achievement and Supporting Further Efforts to Prevent Child Marriages in Koraput District! #ChildMarriagePrevention #CommunityEmpowerment #TribalCommunities #SocialChange Source: https://lnkd.in/dk69cRin

This is true regardless of the gender of the aggressor. Not all domestic abusers are men and not all victims are fully grown women. Far too often gender politics overlooks the safety of children. ------------------- Trauma Awareness #brainhealthmatters #generationaltrauma #survivorstories #trauma #traumaawareness #traumainformed #traumainformedcare #traumarecovery Child Welfare #attachment #attachmentstyles #childabuse #childdevelopment #childhealth #childhealthcare #childprotection #earlyintervention #emotionalabuse #fostercare #nochildleftbehind

It is a misconception that Islam forbids family planning. However, this is a common prevailing notion in Pakistan. Renowned Islamic institutions and scholars affirm its permissibility, aligning with Quranic teachings. Collaborations like the one between the Population Welfare Department and TCI engage Islamic scholars to educate on contraception and reproductive health, emphasizing responsible parenthood and informed choices. Religious leaders actively promote family planning, highlighting its alignment with Islamic principles for the well-being of mothers, children, and overall family welfare. https://lnkd.in/dW36rRQr #FamilyPlanning #InformedChoices #Wellbeing
